Understood. But since it is possible to get a legitimate (albeit temporary) copy from the book, "3ds max 7 Bible", I restored that question with a huge caveat citing GoW's anti-piracy position. Hopefully that will be sufficient.

That will work nicely. I actually did not think there would be any legal channels to obtain Max 7 remaining... Maybe I should stop thinking ;)

If you're referring to attaching the component to the object, I've already done that. It produces a different message without it. If you're referring to another tool than the ComponentManager, where is it?

go to the utilities tab ( the hammer on the right)

click "more"

select "Component utils" and then OK

select your object and you should now be able to set the Page info with the age file you made (or any other Plasma component for that matter)

Thanks, I've got the ComponentUtils tool shown now, and when I select the object, it shows the PageInfo settings, such as "Age" and "Page", but these are just empty dropdown lists, and there is no option to set them nor select the .age file.

Is your age file in the dat folder of the client directory you specified in PlasmaMAX2.ini?

Yes, and it has the same name as the .max file, and I've tried it both as a plaintext file and a whatdoyousee encrypted file. Do you use plaintext or whatdoyousee?

I see that I had changed the path from H:\PlasmaTest to H:\deletable\PlasmaTest and was still working in H:\PlasmaTest^^ Thanks for helping me get up and running! I'll pretend that I did this on purpose so that others don't feel bad when they do the same^^

I called autodesk this morning to see if I could legally buy a license for 3ds max 7, and was told that they no longer sell those licenses. But of course, I could use the trial version of max 7 for 30 days from 3ds max bible cd. I am not happy with that response, but I am not willing to pirate a copy either. Last night I tried creating objects in a legal copy of max 9, and felt more productive than using blender. I got good results exporting my objects as .obj files and importing them into blender. (Yes I know they have to be re-textured).
Still it would be so convenient to be able to go right from max into uru.
Do you think one of us is willing and able to update the plugins for max 9 and/or 10?
