Re: Is this allowed?
If the possibilities are endless it's like trying to hit the broad side of a barn when that barn is the size of the Moon and only a foot away. As long as you are facing the right way it's basically impossible not to get pretty close to what you want, as long as you know what you are doing.

Re: Is this allowed?
Canon states that there is a cavern in New Mexico with D'ni in it, Cyan is a game company that found out about this and used historical accounts to create the Myst series, and the game "Uru" does not exist, (instead, Uru represents reality) an organization called the DRC decided to restore the cavern and allow the general public to explore the cavern and ages, and that's how we got there.Mogwaii wrote:BAD wrote:The D'ni are on our Earth. The Cavern is located in New Mexico. Some D'ni had reportedly made it to the surface and remained when they built the exhaust fans to the cavern as well.
well then how come there is no cavern in new mexico? or at least im pretty sure there's no d'ni cavern in new mexico...
Any storyline, fan or official, occurs in a fictional multi-verse where the above is true.
If you want to tell a story where your age-linker links to an age like earth where the D'ni do not exist, and Uru is a game, (essentially, real-reality+fiction, rather than uru-reality) then I suppose that's technically possible, but stretches the willingness of your audience to go along with your story pretty thin.

Ha! OMG that would be hilarious. You link to the Cleft and it isn't there. After wandering some county roads you finally find a gas station. "Excuse me sir but I am looking for Jeff Zandi's property. I seem to be lost."
No one knows what you are talking about. Deciding to take the long way home, you discover that you no longer have one. Your keys don't work in the lock and upon inspecting through an open window, you find that all the furniture is not yours. Disorientated you wander around trying to put the pieces together. You pass by a tag sale and on one table a package sticks out to you.
"Uru: Complete Cronicles"... Wasn't that what Yeesha and Zandi were talking about? You read the packaging and a sudden realization hits you. The D'ni don't exist, the cavern, gone, even you an avid explorer are a thing of fantasy as in this version of Earth, it's all just a computer game.

Reduplicative paramnesia ~ So that is why this game is so addictive. We are all delusional, having a belief that these locations have been replicated and are existing in two or more places simultaneously. In otherwords Déjà vu..

I prefer e-mails to "diafero arcor de" (after adding the at and the dot) over PMs.

Ah but BAD you then you get an sms text message on your cell phone from some guy called Walker....

Re: Is this allowed?
Ha, thanks guys. I love trying to find ways to make story ideas work.
Wait til you see my theories of how the D'ni would ensure no one could follow them through a link.

There is seriously a place that they based the D'ni off of? Did they find out about the D'ni cleft in New Mexico before or after Myst? If it was after, it would make both more and less sense; because they originally called it "Dunny", yet it's pretty convenient the old civilization was called D'ni.
Anyway, it's still not the same Earth. because the D'ni don't write portal books.

I don't know that I'll ever do this, but you have a point and I'll keep that in mind.
But... this idea I have is creating new canon for the Earth the fictional D'ni are on. So just create my adventure in a new Earth where I can't interfere. Still, I probably won't ever do it.
This seems like a cool game. So from this room I can go anywhere I want? Kirel? Sure I'll go there. Hey, free T-Shirts! Ah ha! This must be the best one, it's farther away! Hey, cool website! So what exactly is an age?
FPS?
Over a year ago, I drew a map for a Myst style multiplayer FPS and I finally found it.
An FPS age?
Now I know that would not work. But I still know it could.
The map is drawn only for two opposing teams, but I see how it would also work as an "everyman for himself" if you could respawn at various locations.
More than half the map is locked with some stuff you would have to solve, giving you some very nice locations to snipe from.
I'm pretty sure it would not be easy to make.
I'll post the map here ₩ҤE₦ ł <IF I EVER BOTHER TO> get it fully layed out and in proportion.
