Don't worry, the fix is not in the main SVN trunk at this time. It is in my personal contrib folder until (or if) one of the main developers decides to make it "official". I suggest you try it and see how it works out for you. The more test results we get the better. My first impression is that the effect of the lowered friction is stronger than the lack of bouncing. So walking up stairs should be easier now.

Hm, that's interesting.
I tried D'Lanor's version, and my stairs worked *better* (having triangle mesh).

Maybe it depends on the stair's step height (and maybe depth); I used a height of 0.6 Blender units (= 0.6 ft = about 18cm) per step and it works great.
The step "depth" is 1.0 units. The width does not matter, I assume.
