No More Excuses

Some one linked an amazing site in a thread I was reading the other day. I think it was Dendwaler (I know I spelled that wrong. :? Sry). It is a page devoted to teaching the new blender from the ground up. The site is set up like a college course and even has exercises and home work like stuff. Very cool. So for all of us that have been crying about how hard blender is to learn, here ya go:

http://www.gryllus.net/Blender/3D.html

This site is guaranteed to teach you blender about a million times faster than was possible before.

These videos (or rather, their predecessors) helped me a lot to learn and understand the Blender 2.4x-version. I can really recommend them, especially to beginners, who are overwhelmed by Blenders interface!
I don´t know, how good the new video tutorials are, but if Mr. Hirsig continues like before, they will be great to learn the new Blender interface :)

I must say these are a great help. Example: I have been around Uru for just under 4 years and i that time I have tried on multiple occasions to learn Blender, with tut in hand and failed every time. Now I know it is not so much me being the problem as in that time I have learned Photoshop, Daz Studio, Bryce, Carrara, Hexagon, Vue, Photoshop and many more programs (most self taught with some having lessons). I am just starting to get proficient with some of those now.

Last week I DL'ed and installed Blender 2.57. DL'ed those vids mentioned above and all ready I have done more than I had before. So much so I am now setting aside a number of hours a day to devote to Blender.

What I like about these is how straight forward the information is delivered.

Hehe, I already used this tutorial site extensively, even for Blender 249; it's really great.
And I remember this link was repeatedly posted on this forums by various users.
Doing a quick search gave 15 matches:
search.php?keywords=gryllus&terms=all&author=&sc=1&sf=all&sr=posts&sk=t&sd=d&st=0&ch=300&t=0&submit=Search

So, maybe we should put a link in the WIKI - because it seems older threads with valuable links simply tend to be forgotten.

EDIT: Nvm, there has been already a link to it (called Video tutorials), don't know how long, under "Getting Started with Blender".

These tuts are really outstanding. I can now, with all confidence, honestly tell a person that says they "could not" learn blender, that they just haven't tried hard enough. The new UI is so intuitive as well. I think that had I come into age development with it, I would be much further along.

yes that is what I found also, more intuitive UI. Like all new programs I sit for a few days clicking here and there. The same went for this new UI. After an hour or so I had set up a direct link to my texture folder which works nicely, my font folder which also works great. Loaded a pre made scaled avatar (Uru scale) and saved the loading of it as default. I think this came at the perfect time to be honest. Yes it would have been nicer the have before. But let's not dwell. :D I also think it is quite cool to use open source software on an open source project. Feels right to me. Yeah I am a tad wierd. :D

Taking of that pre made scaled avatar. I had tried previous to texture it without much success but after watching those tuts I went and textured it. I used the smart uvunwrapping. Very cool and better than 2.49. Small steps but at least I am on the road now, proper thanks to these tuts and Blender's new UI.

On 3D Buzz, there are some Blender Fundamentals video tutorials available, which can help you to get a first contact with the Blender interface.
Compared to Neal Hirsig's dry presentations, those are a lot more entertaining; just sit back and watch like TV:
