I don't want anyone to turn this into "battle of the ideas", but perhaps it would be a good idea to design both and see which works better.Finally, I'm going to PM Hoikas about getting a project forum set up.

I understand that. Other people seemed to want a hangout spot in the WNexus. It looks like a concept for both options will be made.

Let me spell this out in a more simple direct way:

Your project needs someone willing to put it out there. As a core part of the gameplay system (Being used to access fan ages), it will not be supported by the GoW Shard if there is one. The Development team behind the shard has no interest in it. So you won't get support for implementing it's workings into the vault. Which is required for any Nexus like system to work.

As for showing up in MOULa, you can try if you'd like, but I get the sneaking suspsicion that Cyan will integrate Fan ages how they choose, not by anyone elses system but one they hammer out, and their legal team approves.

Now you can make a hangout spot if you choose. I say go for it, we always are looking for new content. But as a core gameplay system, the developers of the GoW's shard will decide how best to implement things like this. They have decided not to use your proposed system of choice.

Our thoughts (and by "our", I mean the guild leadership and those that work closely with us) have been that the best thing to do is use the Nexus for cavern locations (just as Cyan does for kveer and kirel), and add other ages to the Museum, Library, and other cavern areas. That's our plan for the GoW shard: we're getting the Nexus fixed up for cavern locations, and since we'll be hand-picking fan ages to make sure the shard contains the best of the best, it's easy to add linking books to areas as-needed.

Now, that's not to say the Community Nexus couldn't be useful in other situations, or for other shards. Any shard that wants to contain every age ever made will probably find use in a different sort of linking system, and the Community Nexus might fit that perfectly. And of course as always you're welcome to continue designing your age on the GoW forums - just because a few of us higher-ups don't like a concept doesn't mean it's unwelcome.

Thanks Branan. If it doesn't get to be used by the GoW Shard, maybe we use it in a unique age story, we will see, but for sure thanks for strengthening our back on that one.

This Nexus project is not like any GoW standalone project; this nexus project is important. It's important from a gameplay perspective, it's important from an IC perspective, and it's important from a community perspective. It is filling a gapping need and it is the greatest symbol that Uru now belongs to its players. In many regards this project is one of the most constructive gift we can give to the rest of the Uru community. Not displaying it on our own shard doesn't make much sense to me.

I agree that the best of the best content should get put on the GoW shard, and I also agree it should be in the city. We have kind of split into two separate projects: GPNMilano is working on a new GUI for the Nexus, and me and Fuchida are working on the WNexus. I agree with the point that the WNexus would have no use on the GoW shard. And I also agree that the WNexus is perfect for shards like DI or UAM. Both the GUI upgrade and the WNexus are top priority projects, and they both are needed in the shards. I am wondering whether the GUI update will include an upgrade to the hood system, and whether there will be hoods on the GoW shard. Anyway, I really think we need a project sub-forum so we can split this topic up into multiple posts for each of the sub-projects this is turning into.

It is a mystery to me why you guys keep caring about what is posted on MOUL forums. Especially since you all have a rather thin skin. You don't need them. Delete your bookmark to that forum, as I did months ago.

You are a bunch of young coders with a fun project that yields results. Have fun and deliver, and people will just enjoy your work and be thankful for it, and the naysayers will have no audience left.

In addition, document your project and use it as valuable experience in your resumes. Compared to the young coders I see coming into my firm, you guys are miles ahead. You would shine in an interview just by describing what you've done in the Uru universe and what you're doing right now, provided you managed to keep a positive attitude during the whole interview, which frankly would be your main challenge, from what I've seen in the few last years.

The GoW's shard is being develeoped by the GoW's leadership, and several others that chime in from time to time. All of which posted here several times, and all of which have stated they don't want to use the Community Nexus proposal, as it won't fit in with there perfered system of linking on the GoW's shard. As branan pointed out, it's not that it's not a neat concept. It just won't fit with the GoW's shard, and the way the development team is crafting how that shard will function. It may work on an idependent shard, as those shards will have access to the majority of ages, while the GoW's shard will be host to "the best of the best". Which will be a rather small number at first, granted, but grow as more people develop their skills and shine in age creation.

All of which posted here several times, and all of which have stated they don't want to use the Community Nexus proposal, as it won't fit in with there perfered system of linking on the GoW's shard. As branan pointed out, it's not that it's not a neat concept. It just won't fit with the GoW's shard, and the way the development team is crafting how that shard will function. It may work on an idependent shard, as those shards will have access to the majority of ages, while the GoW's shard will be host to "the best of the best". Which will be a rather small number at first, granted, but grow as more people develop their skills and shine in age creation.

My bad then. I did see bits mentionned in this very thread, but I was not under the impression that a formal consensus had been settled on. But then again, if a decisions isn't printed on paper and signed by everyone with their blood I still think that it is not yet a final decision.
For the record I think that the GoW shard would actually be the perfect place to put all Ages available. Those Ages have been created by Writers (and Maintainers) so it's only legitimate that they are on the Writers shard. Beside, it is highly probable that most Ages will never get much online use, and they will not use much ressources on a server. And most of them will never even by put on a shard; especially the older ones. So it might be nice if they are available at least somewhere, in some sort of central archive; and it might as well be the GoW shard.
But it appears I'm late to the discussion; so that's just my two euro cents.

Also: am I right in thinking that old Ages that are only CC compatible and not MOULa compatible cannot be put on a shard anyway? (which would make the rest of my post pointless ).

I didn't really see discussion of the GoW shard until Branan posted. Anyway, I still have absolutely no idea about this whole compatibility thing either. If this means good oldies won't see the light...er...dark of the cavern in the GoW shard, there isn't much point (unless some kind of "Project: Conversion" comes out, which would be cool to see).

Thanks a lot for saying that, Chacal - my last visit to those forums was before I started university, at least 15 months ago. I didn't miss a thing.
So, since this thread is taking interesting directions - Paradox, Hoikas and whoever wrote similar posts recently, please don't! There will always be people not liking you or your work, ignoring it at the best, fighting against it sometimes. But remember that there are others who really appreciate a lot what you do, appreciating your work, time and blood you put into these projects. I understand your frustration, I feel it myself, but I still think we can pull this off.

Back to the Nexus topic - interesting to read what you posted, branan, it's the first time I hear that. I take it you will also attempt to stay more IC, e.g. with the regard to KI features?
But, that doesn't mean we don't need a proper Nexus suited for looong age lists at all - if time permits, I will definitely play around with MOULa Shards.
