PyPRP2 Beta 1 released

Postby Branan » Thu May 26, 2011 9:07 pm

After much hemming, hawing and delaying, we are finally ready to announce the first beta of PyPRP2: PyPRP2_0.8.1.

This release requires a 32-bit Blender 2.57. 64-bit Blenders and older versions will not work.

Thank you all for your patience. We're looking forward to your feedback and suggestions.

A short list of features supported in this release:
  • Automatic vertex light baking
  • Alpha vertex paint
  • Multiple material layers
  • Spawn points
  • Lamps
  • Textures
  • Wireframe materials
  • Kickables
  • Sphere and Proxy physicals
This list might seem a bit short after all the time and hype that's gone into PyPRP2. Remember, PyPRP2 is a complete rewrite, so we can't really use anything that was already done in PyPRP 1. This rewrite lets us target other Plasma versions (such as MOULagain and even Myst V), and it also lets us avoid some of the mistakes that were made in PyPRP 1. You won't find any ALCscript in PyPRP2, for example.

It is really great. I am just working with it. I like the interface and how it is easily found exactly where you need it. Physics where the blender physics are, texture where the model is etc. etc.

I guess focus for now are more Plasma Modifiers, like "Linking Book", "Ladder Top, Ladder Bottom". Or did I get it wrong that these things can't be done for now?

Thanks again, Lohntav, Paradox and Branan for this great tool!!

Great to finally see a release of it - thanks a lot to everyone involved!

You know what? You made me smile for a full hour now the whole time.
This is a great gift; thank you very much for this beta.

Though not much options, you managed to place them in the belonging Blender sections, which is how one would expect it. Congrats!
And having Advanced Settings which are normally hidden is a good idea as well.

Some notes:
a) Under Object => Plasma Object, there's an option to exclude this object from export (Disable Export).
Good to have this option, but wouldn't it be more straight to let this behave as a positive option, as "Is Drawable" is?
User interfaces with negative logic sometimes tend to be a bit less intuitive.
(Just rename it to "Enable Export", "Include in Export", or just "Export", and give it a checkmark by default, maybe?)

b) I followed your first example in the video, and the age exported fine - but the file "MyFirstAge_District_Scene.prp" did not go into //Export as the other three did, but directly in the blender file folder.

c) The name of this thread is Beta as well (PyPPR2) :D

a) That's easy enough. If anyone has any objections to this they'd best speak up and start the debate, otherwise it'll be in Beta 2

b) that's odd... Can you repeat it with the same .blend file? If so, can you send me that file somehow so I can take a look and try to see what's up?

c) I don't know what you're talking about ;)

I reformulate my question in the hope I get a direct answer.

Are we able to put linking books into our ages with this release or (as i understand) not?

What is the timeframe for those things?

Appreciating in Advance, :)
