Shorah everyone!
As I'm sure many of you know, Microsoft is going to officially stop supporting Windows XP in 2014. I'd like us all to have a bit of an idea of what people are still using to play URU, so we can maybe see about dropping XP sometime in the future. There are some advantages for the developers as far as ease of maintenance if we can drop support for XP. Obviously if a bunch of people use XP we won't be able to do this.
I'll probably re-run this poll again several times over the next few years (assuming I'm still around then) so we can try to get an idea of when it will be possible to upgrade to an NT6-only product.
We silently dropped support for Windows 2000 in Gehn, and nobody complained about that. I consider that a good sign, since 2000 has only been officially unsupported since 2010. XP has proven to have a lot more staying power than 2000, though, so I'm not sure we'll be as lucky getting rid of that one.

Unfortunately i cannot vote for more then 1 option.
I am a user/tester of windows 8 beta, and i am sure that the day that it will be my main operating sytem will be short after the release.
But today the main OS is w7.
So that is my choise for this Poll.

yeah, I moved it as soon as I realized where I had put it. I'm tempted to rename that other one.Whilyam wrote:I was wondering why I got a notification about this topic... Damn you, identically-named-forums! *shakes fist*

Re: Operating System Survey!
I think it might be a good idea to have multiple options.
I'm currently mostly using Linux Mint 10 for everything (about to switch to Ubuntu 12.04) EXCEPT Uru, which I play on a partition containing Windows 7 32-bit or another computer with Windows Vista (quite rarely). I would much appreciate it if there was a Linux build available.
Anyway, Windows XP is still used by about a third of the computing population. I think that, unfortunately, quite a few people will be still using XP in 2014.

I'd like to see XP supported until at least 2014, as my second machine still uses XP. I voted for Windows 7 above, though.

Re: Operating System Survey!
Windows XP is 10-going-on-11 years old at this point. I'm not extraordinarily interested in pulling out my hair to continue supporting it.

Re: Operating System Survey!
I am still using XP and probably will for as long as I can and I'm using a lot of Android stuff via my Phone and I can see me moving to an Android tablet at some point. I run Ubuntu inside a Windows folder and have some variations of older stuff running in an Oracle Virtual also on the XP.
I would like to run everything from Ubuntu and at some point I will be reversing the options with the primary being Ubuntu Linux with the XP running on a virtual machine on top of that.
I'm also regressing back looking at the RaspberryPi where I want to emulate a Sinclair Spectrum but I doubt we will be able to run Uru from the Spectrum emulator but a Linux Client may run on a RaspberryPi.

I'm not using Windows at all, but the client also works with wine, and from all I know wine supports the WinXP API quite well. I'm fine with dropping XP, as long as the client still uses API that wine supports

I prefer e-mails to "diafero arcor de" (after adding the at and the dot) over PMs.
