Hello Explorers!
I have in the past 2 years been mostly present on MOULa shard, making unbelievable quests throughout the ages there. I’m not done yet LOL...still more greatness to come on that shard. That’s not the topic here though.
“I have ...been mostly present on MOULa shard”, I was just saying...but Do I?
Let me go back in time:
I played on URU:CC environment for a long time before Mid-March 2010. I entered the MOULa shard in Mid-March and drop down URU:CC for 1 month and half approximately. Since May 2010, I’m back on URU:CC environment and I never quitted it.
I like this environment, I like the Fan Ages, I want you to learn and explore and enjoy that environment. I’m a proponent of the 2 environments. Yes they are different, yes one is less sexy than the other, many skydivers dislike URU:CC environment because they are saying: “We cannot achieve nothing there!” and “We must use Jump command everywhere!”.
Those 2 statements are false. The hardest skydiving is...in URU:CC environment. I dislike the “Jump” command and quite frankly, if I can avoid it, I will most certainly.
The only thing that is true is since Cyan kept URU:CC with its original physic engine: HavoK, it’s tailored to avoid skydiving in Cyan’s Ages. MOUL environment’s skydiving is only possible because they had to change HavoK to PhysX. We can be grateful of that change in a way.
My project:
My project will be called “Journeys inside URU”. It will be appealing to the whole community because I won’t only publish quests, NO, I will also talk about the ages, the ages’ writers, my appreciations of those ages, I will publish pictures, I will tell you what you can see, what you can expect.
I will talk about approximately 60 fan ages. I won’t go through every single one of them. If I’m not talking about one specific age, that doesn’t mean I dislike it, I had to make choices. I spanned very large to include multiple type of ages. I’m not seeking for the most beautiful shadow effects, or the best sounds, etc. I’m seeking for exploration fun and discovery, that’s all I’m good at.
Janaba did an awesome job (BTW ) of wrapping all the Dustin’s Walkthrough Project and adding some info (I noticed it...I know the Walkthrough Project by heart ...puzzles and me aren’t best friends ). It's Dustin’s views on Fan Ages. Having met him online on his shard, I know his gameplay is different than mine. I’m going to tell my views on the Fan Ages.
Let’s take a simple example...
Explorer Alpha comes to Age X, he sees puzzles, he says great let me solve them.
I come to Age X, I see other opportunities, puzzles will come later if I need them. You will understand as my topic will start ...
I hope you will see what I can add to the community; every buddy I took in a grand tour of Fan Ages had always an awesome experience. I’m not conventional, I’m me. I want you to like the Fan Ages, to go there often after the initial visit, to see these ages with different eyes.
Each month, I will put emphasis on teams or specific writers. So, if you aren’t the “writer/team” of the month, do not despairs, you’ll eventually have your 15 minutes of fame.
I will take and post pictures; I will put a gallery of the ages of the month. I will adopt a weekly basis release approach. I will talk about 6 to 10 ages each month. It will be this format: Text + Pictures + (Quest(s) if applies)
There will be some quests. I didn’t make or plan quest for every age I will talk about. Here are my golden rules for making a quest:
1- Can I explore part of this age with skydiving techniques? If yes, then quest
2- If not, is there a specific aspect of this age worth making a quest using “jump” command to help other explorers appreciate more this age? If yes, then quest
3- If not...meaning you just need to input jump command, then definitely no quest will be done.
How all this will be translated:
54 quests (for now): 46 quests in Fan Ages & 8 quests in Cyan’s Ages (URU & EoA ages)
On the 54 quests: 45 quests using only skydiving techniques, 9 quests using jump command.
You won’t find my quests easy. They are tailored for URU:CC environment. They will be as hard as my quests made for MOUL environment. There will be 6 or 7 quests released each month.
The quest will be released on Deep Island Shard so my thread will be on that specific section. I’ve chosen the Deep Island Shard for diverse reasons. It’s the official Alcugs shard of the GoW community. Everyone having an account on this forum is automatically able to create an account on that shard. The number of explorers is the biggest: 582 as of August 16th. This shard is linked to UAM dataserver so if there is new content added, it will be automatically pushed in Deep Island shard.
Here is the list of Skydiving Techniques needed in URU:CC environment. It will make you chill . To play through my quests, you will need to master them. I will develop them later on when the first quests will be released.
1- Drifting on a collision wall
2- Breaking on landing
3- Countering the sliding effect on turning
4- Sliding on a plane
5- Wobbling through collision wall
6- Warp-jumping through a Subworld
7- Keeping running steadily
8- Stabilizing your Avatar when going forward
9- Drowning deeper than intended
10- Following an inverted downward plane
11- Doing a fast 2nd movement before sliding off
12- Sticking yourself to help you going further on
13- Holding on a run-jump to safely land on a faraway spot
14- Sticking & moving on the very edge of a collision plane at half body height to go further
15- Doing run-jumps on top of a collision wall knowing you cannot stop for split second
16- Landing on spherical collision planes & stabilizing on top of them
17- Climbing on totally invisible planes to reach your goal
18- Running/Walking against a collision wall to avoid falling off
That’s about it ...in other word, all this above can be shorten to “saving your ass!”
I hope you’ll enjoy. It has been a long project. I’ve been working on that project since 2 years. Deep Island is 2 years old, I began when I first logged in on that specific shard.
It will start in September and will be a weekly basis project and will be run for 8 months approximately with some weeks off for vacations/venting/Christmas/events out of control/...
EDITION NOTE:
I put all my post under spoilers diminishing the font size & compacting the whole text. I did that because it's no longer relevant. I didn't want to start a whole new thread, this one is just fine. I leave the whole text there since some explorers (janaba & justintime) responded to it.
