OH, i can tell that it won't be long before i look back and recall the time when i understood what was happening.

Even if you don't ponder all those 425,944 menu items (did i miss any?) staring back from this nice little gray page, just thinking about how these ten simple navigation commands will compound themselves, like rabbits – all this potential for complexity threatens to disturb the peaceful waters wherein i, and my rubber ducky, thrive (zoom in on the captain in his tub after all the misfits have landed on Earth: final chapters of Hitchhikers' Guide to the Galaxy (original version).

As for time involved, given playing with the obedient little cube, and switching back and forth copying notes down, i spent about 20 mins going through your instructions, Jen. So, you can assign homework if you like.

Also, no need to give separate instructions. My mouse works like Monkeyboy's.

Thank you Jen for being so willing to drag us along.

lol, I know that feeling! :D

Homework = Evil! :P And even besides that, I'm trying to keep lessons small enough for people who are short on time to do. :) So if any of these lessons takes longer than 20 minutes, let me know!

Oh, do you have a wheel? I thought you only had buttons.

1. Do you have Blender 2.45 installed? (Version 2.45 shows a picture of some flowers when it starts up, and when it is running there will be a little maroon bar towards the upper right hand corner where it says "www.blender.org 245")
2. If you have Blender 2.45 installed, then open it up...two windows should pop up, one the standard blender screen where you have a picture of a cube, and the other a black window with plain white lettering on it. What does the lettering in the black window read? (That black window, called the console window, tells us how happy Blender is with us--or not. )
3. What sort of mouse do you have? I.e., does it have one button, two buttons, three buttons, two buttons with a wheel, or...?

1.Yes.
2. "Compiled with Python version 2,5.
Checking for installed Python... got it!" (Yay...)
3. Two buttons and a wheel.

Anything else? :D

Hi Jennifer,
saw your posts but just now had time to dive in, i upgraded Blender from 2.40 to 2.45 and here are my replies, just like Junee

1.Yes.
2. "Compiled with Python version 2,5.
Checking for installed Python... got it!" (Yay...)
3. Two buttons and a wheel.

I will try to catch up on the thread after lunch, and really appreciate your sharing with us like this.

cheers
chris

Welcome, Junee and Crisger;
You will see me in the back of the classroom (those in the back are the ones you gotta watch out for).

Isn't it heart-warming to see an ex-teacher being taught by a student?
We never stop learning.

Watch out, Jennifer. Teachers are the most unruly students.

Nope, looks like your Blender and mouse are all go, go, go! :D And congratulations for having a mouse like mine. :P Now the first lesson is back in this thread somewhere...maybe I should go back and make it stand out a bit so we won't have to dig for it, eh?

And Crisger, good to have you with us! And thanks for the kind words; I'm happy to be able to help out. I see that you also have a mouse like mine, muy bien y perfecto. Did you have any problems with the first lesson? And did it take you any longer than 20 minutes?

Now pappou, did you have a scroll wheel like Monkeyboy's or...?

You will see me in the back of the classroom (those in the back are the ones you gotta watch out for).

Watch out, Jennifer. Teachers are the most unruly students.

 Don't worry Chacal; I have a very strict disciplinary policy. For a first offense, students are given a stern warning, and then are fed to the alligators. For a second offense...well, actually I have yet to encounter that problem. :|

No problem got thru that first lesson fine Teacher, and thanks. Thanks for the tips on the fast and easy way to manuver around in Blender screen.

I am heading for the back of the classroom now, I like to have a wall at my back, but i promise to be good. I will be fine as long as Pappou and Chacal dont steal my lunchbox or put gum on my chair.
