The problem I see, one of the hurdles to jump, even after Cyan negotiates for the rights and gets them. Is the worst possible scenario. A return to the UU game engine. That means that the MUOL ages will have to be backported. Which is what Drizzle does. Unfortunately it doesn't backport them completely. The ladders don't work. The footsteps only work on the upper levels in the pods. No sounds. No camera regions. Etc.
So, a lot of work will have to be done making those ages, work in Uru. Which is why getting the import function to work with the converted MUOL ages is important. If they were made differently in 3DSMax, we need to know how, so we can make the necessary corrections in the code of either pyprp, or drizzle, to convert them correctly.
We'd also have to write new scripts for the ages themselves, their puzzles etc. But, hopefully Cyan would help us with all of that.

Drizzle is the hack, I take it, that makes MO:UL ages work in CC?
I didn't realize it was so buggy. That's an irritation.
Of course, I would think we'd have the same problem if we got a new engine, with importing fan-based Ages. We'd basically be back to square one in that area, wouldn't we?

I seriously doubt that if Cyan gets the rights to the game back, they'll approve of using a hack to make their own content available in their own game. They have the ability to do it themselves with minimal effort. All they would have to do is set up some sort of until uru equivalent using their latest engine version. Sure, the creation tools would have to adapt, but there really isn't so much of a difference between the formats that it would take a prohibitively long time. After all, the creation tools don't have to support absolutely everything like Drizzle has to, in order to convert every possible feature that cyan might have used in their ages.

Yes, the most likely scenario at this point is Cyan running a MOUL server and us making new content for it.

That's what I think too.
One day I ran through the cleft for the fiftieth time, and found that uru held no peace for me anymore.

Which means, if we go the MOUL side of things, chances are those that erased their gametap Uru files, will have to redownload all of them all over again. Which, god nows how long that will take considering their was nearly a full year of new content, and updates. Some updates being a gig alone. Let's not hope we will all have to redownload all that.

My entire MOUL folder is only 3.3 GB, uncompressed.

That's the scenario I'm hoping for... for MANY reasons

Hmmm. I agree that Cyan setting up their own server for MO:UL would be ideal, but frankly I don't see that happening. I mean, look at the history here. Ubisoft pulls the plug because it's looking pretty certain that Uru won't turn a profit. Gametap gives it more of a chance, but in the end pulls the plug again because, as predicted, it doesn't turn a profit. Cyan is a business. They're not going to waste their time and money on something that doesn't return. I am thinking that the absolute most we could hope for is that Cyan might let US use one of their servers. New story, new official content from Cyan...that's the stuff that requires paid employees to spend their time on. I have serious doubts that MO:UL itself could come back, even if Cyan gets the rights. I think the most we could get would basically be Until Uru with the MO:UL Ages thrown in and the ability to contribute our own fan-made Ages. And quite honestly, I think that would be pretty awesome all by itself.

Could someone explain to me in detail why running a Alcugs private shard for friends & family who paid for TPOTS would hurt Cyan & Gametap? Why would it hurt anyone if we could enjoy a day at the beach with friends & family?
