I don't understand how that breaks the "rules" anymore then linking from Relto to Relto. That GZ book had the Yeesha symbol didn't it? Though I have no idea where this "rule" of the D'ni being unable to link within the same age came from.
#1 I hate Yeesha magic. It ruins immersion for me.
#2 It was one of the very first rules of linking set forth to us in the Book of Atrus, then reinforced in the Book of Ti'ana.

I have always believed that it was a rule imposed by the great writers in an attempt to stop contaminating links, they had this strong belief that the links they write are precious(an example of their pride over logic).
We know that Kadish saw himself as the grower and tried to make him the one true ruler of time and space (Ahnonay).
Kadish was pridul man and one of the great writers. So without telling the other writers of his great plan, he went forth and broke that rule for Ahnonay, by wrtiing a second book which we now know as the Cathedral.
The Nexus it self is a whole different Age, but for some reason the Nexus also breaks the normal rules of linking in that loads of people link to it but don't see each other.

This is pure conjecture. The Cathedral was probably a separate age.

I think that's probably just a trick for Uru (don't have to wait for XYZ to finish with the machine so you can use it). The KI was a pretty new invention at the fall, so the nexus probably wasn't used en masse for much other than travel between the Neighborhoods.

Yeah, the Nexus HAS to be in a different place.
*my blocks out all traces of Yeesha magic*

Whoops, I kind of forgot that there were books, didn't read them though.
If you don't want to think Yeesha made that GZ link book, then maybe someone went into the Nexus, detached the Great Zero linking book, then linked with the book to the neighborhood? Or are books taken into the age they link to supposed to become disabled?

or they just don't work or you get linked somewhere strange in the Great Tree of Possibility...
Either way you usually write your linking book in the place it's supposed to link to.

There are also, one could theorize, more than one Nexus age. As evidenced by Phil's bookshelf, that has the normal Nexus book, then another on the bottom shelf, with the Nexus symbol, but a different color book. But that again is merely a theory. We know for a fact though that there are multiple Nexi. Gahreesen has the Maintainers Nexus (which is a different age, but located in the Gahreesen age files to cut down on loading time. So its possible that there is an age out there that contains multiple Nexi, and that these Nexi are individual rooms in some great machine of the D'ni. But again, that's just a theory.

The Nexus is a separate age. A massive age filled with the "pods" we link into all connected to a giant storehouse of books. The Nexus machinery retrieves any age book in the system and delivers it to the user. People in other "pods" can't be talked to presumably because of some D'ni engineering.
This is what I've understood it to be, at least.

More evidence of the Nexus being a separate Age is the KI.
Every location in D'ni had the prefix "D'ni-" on the KI. Like D'ni-Riltagamin, D'ni-Ae'gura, D'ni-Ashem'en, D'ni-Rudenna, etc. (The 'hoods were the only exceptions) The Nexus would have had the prefix D'ni- if it were in D'ni. Unfortunately, Cyan broke the rule of D'ni-prefixes during MOUL with Descent and Old Spyroom...

I thought the Nexus had many rooms, but there's no way to know for sure. I also suspect the lattice is somewhere in the Nexus Age. There has to be more in the Age than just that little room. For example, there needs to be a way for people (the D'ni Maintainers I guess) to add Linking Books to the Nexus Library. Or perhaps that was done from the same interface we use, but with a special Maintainers KI. Hmm...

The Nexus is on, (or rather in,) the moon.

Each crater has a Nexus chamber beneath it...
