Great idea, I like it.
Sounds like a good idea and concept. I have to agree with the others that the missing cover part and the organic part might cause problems.
You could try a non organic plastic hinged cover that opens when a button is pressed and automatically closes after 30 seconds. It could be solar powered with a small watch battery to run it when the sun is not out.
