I too don't see the need for combining all the guilds into one forum system. At the very least it would create a (possibly minor) obstacle to overcome that is not closely related to setting up a shard.

Another vote for 'don't merge forums.' The simplest solution is to have GoW and/or GoMa forums be the main 'point of contact' for the hairy technical details involved in running a server. Those groups are where the needed technical assistance hang out most anyway; I almost *never* visit the official site, for various reasons (don't ask, I'd just rant anyway - and to half-reply to Andy's simul-post below its an SL rant not an Uru one).

Otherwise I'm OK with the outline so far. There's some long-standing issues I'd like to see fixed *cough*Netcode*cough* but I'm still mulling over the announcement (and my own feelings about it).

Here's an idea:

A forum that's for Guild and Group communication.

It doesn't combine all the guilds upon one forum, but instead allows for communications between all the guilds and insterested groups.

Maybe that would satisfy both people that want to see the Guilds combined upon one forum, and those that want to keep the guild forums seperate.
It would be used primarally to facility communicaitons between the forums and group. Anyone that hates going from guild forum to guild forum to some groups forum, and instead come to this one forum to read up on what guilds are doing, what's happening, etc, etc.

Personally I'd say MOUL's forum for that, but then again there is SO many different conversations going on over there, it's easy to get lost and drown. I was gone for one day to the doctors office, and just could not keep up with all the postings over there.

Just an idea. I'm pretty easy. For me I'm just concentrating on work on my Ages for now. hehe :D

Easy folks this is rough draft, brain storming thinking time.

Feel free to edit the outline, and please add to it, besides just throwing ideas out. If someone doesn't like your edit and changes it and your idea is generally better, we can restore it back to the way it was. I want this thing to get ripped apart and reassembled as much as possible so we get a really good idea where everyone can agree on going. :)

Expanding a bit on what Andy said, we could make a central website that acts as a central hub for the guilds and more importantly the inevitable guild shard. This website would provide links to all the guilds, provide less-technical information (ala wiki, maybe) from all the guilds that the common explorer can understand, and act as a central forum not only between the guilds, but also provide a place for explorers who want to be involved in the guild shard, but are not actually part of a guild. I realize that the mystonline.com website sort of serves this purpose now, but we don't control it, and I honestly don't think Cyan is going to give it to us, but who knows. ;)

Anyway, the best part is that it's easier for the guilds to maintain their own autonomy.

I like the sound of a Guild Hall website and the maintenance of our separate forums It's worked well during this time I know what Andy means sometimes I have to go out to pick up my partner from work and there's ten new posts on in the half hour I am away.

GoMA have a chat thing that's worth a look they put on a an area for TMP to meet in. It would be easy to port this to the new joint website and put an area on for each Guild and if it gets used then there's no big loss.

I'd love to see a central Guild website consolidating all the guilds into one place. If for no other reason than to cut down on the dozen or so forums to check.

For inter-guild and wider inter-group communication, why not develop with the other guilds and groups an area on the Open Uru forum? I'm sure that JWPlatt would be happy to help with this. It would also be possible to set up a similar chat room to that in GoMa.

The reason for suggesting this central, potentially neutral, non-guild-affiliated area is that it might help overcome some explorers' antipathy to the guilds in general. It also helps to avoid the likely charge of empire building were any of the guilds to set it up in their own areas.

Edit: I forgot to say that I agree that it is essential to keep the separate guild forums for everyday working. That way, each guild can set up the system that best matches their needs.

Seems like a good compromise.
I used to have too many forums to check, but I dropped most of these.
I'm concentrating on GoW for age building and another one for hacking- and server-related matters.

With the GoMe spreading important news, i don't have to check MOUL anymore, which is better for my sanity anyway.

I like the idea to have a seperate guildforum not implemented in the MOUL forum. This forum have links to each guild so that every guild has its one forum an can use this in his one way. At the forum is also a central place where interguild questions can be discussed. I find it not so a item that other people not like the guilds, like in real world every one is different and that's good. When people have difficulty with people of the guilds than it say more about them then about me or a other guildmember.
BDW. An chat like the maintainers I find a must, it is a substituted for the guildmeetings from MOUL, I miss them.
