And, we have another two!
Can't we at least block people from starting a new topic unless they replied to a two or three topics?

Thank god for my hellsihly fast trigger finger. I'm at work right now with not much to do. Kinda clicked on a topic, and I'm glad everyone was too busy to notice what I just clicked on. If anyone saw that. I'd be in huge trouble. Not like it was my fault to begin with, but you know how people can be at times.
If only I could reach into the internet and srtangle these spammers myself.
*Waits patiently for someone to delete the latets spammer.*

Then we invite the spammers to reply to every single last topic replied to... It's happened before. And it's a pain to clean up.

I agree there Tsar. Happened to me one time. It took so long to do it. Thankfully, we had 4 or 5 people on the case, so it wasn't that bad. It was still bad though...it was still about 500 posts per person.
Definitely a nightmarish thing to deal with.
Know what confuses me?
What gain do they have spamming all day? I mean how many people actually clikc on these links? I don't know about you, but I'd hate to have to pay 100 people to spam pointless garbage that is jut going to be deleted. Do they get google money for ad clicking or something? If not...then I don't see the point at all.
Can someone bring light to this matter?

@Akijitsu:
They seem to do it for the Google pagerank in relation to Googles advertisement system.
Every time a link - or even a keyword - gets referenced, their page rank goes up a little.
Spam enough forums and you have enough references to make a difference.
@Hoikas:
Mmh, good point, I assumed the bots wouldn't know how to handle that, but it appears I underestimated them again.
(/me thinks it should be legal to cause a meltdown in spammer's PC's)
Would it be a help if you had more people who could clean up spam?

Not really... I seem to have it under a lot better control now (Thanks to IP bans)

I use the "Anti Bot Question" MOD on OpenURU.org. Works great. It's so good I was able to get rid of admin validation. No IP banning mess. IPs change all the time anyway unless they are coming directly out of hosted servers.
Anti-Bot Question:
http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopi ... 9&t=645075The installer only does uk english. You'll have to apply other languages manually. If admin is set for us english, you'll get an error on the forum until you copy out the language files.
OpenURU.org's question is "What color is the sky?"
Anyone who wonders whether I mean day or night, or what kind of weather, or what planet, is just plain being difficult.
Yes, the answer is blue.

Praise to VBulletin's "Delete posts as spam" admin option. This will delete the selected posts, along with all posts by the same users, and will ban the users permanently.

What you can do in phpBB3 is go from the spam post to the user profile, then administrate it and then remove the user - the board will ask you whether you want to remove all of its posts.
