More I read this thread the more it sounds like it is not possible to link to the moon without a way to get there beforehand. And as far as I know the D'ni had no rockets. Yet there is the Todelmer Pod as someone else mentioned so the question is how was a link added to it. It's up in space in a stationary orbit. So how was a link added to it?

I.Brattin: I forgot about the second method Sifr mentioned, so there is a way to link to a moon, though for that it might be necessary for the moon to be accurately described within the descriptive book. Anyway the D'ni did have Todelmer so either it's possible or they got the bahro to do it for them.
