Assuming that Writer's/Comunity Nexus would have simular interface to Cyan Nexus (and we won't be able to add "scrolls" to it), then I would propose to:
1) add more categories on the left (by category I mean current "City Locations", "Personal Links" etc.). For example, how about putting all "Edder XXX" ages to one new category called (end here come suprising twist) "Eder Ages" :).
2) apart from butons "go down/go up" there should be "go 5 positions down/up" buttons

diafero wrote:Sure, a dedicated Writer's Nexus (I think this was also suggested at GoMa as "Community Nexus") would be the best solution, allowing us to (a) write clean, maintainable code and (b) do the modifications we need to do, keep it expendable, and so on - removing most of the fan-age stuff from Cyan's Nexus. Someone (GPNMilano aka Chloe) even had plans for such a project, and I agreed to do the Python scripting with her. However, she unfortunately has vanished (again ), the project never really started. And I alone have neither time nor knowledge to create such a Nexus (I supposed it'd be easier now that 3ds Max is out, but it's still a large project).

I have send a message to GPNMilano with question regarding her working on it some time ago. I still didn't get response.

Or are we going to build Nexus code from scratch? This should be a bundled Age with the Offline KI, or maybe a required plugin.

Short answer: yeah, sure.
Long answer: You must realize that it is a quite a work. And I don't feal like the proper guy to do it (still have a lot to learn about URU modding).
Beside it not just "pulling code from the canon Nexus", but there will be also some changes in Cyan Nexus original code required. While making game they assumed in every bid of code that all Ages are made by them (suprising assumption, isn't it? ;) ).
For example: As far I can tell "Presonal links" is dynamicly generated list of all ages You have personal instace assgined in vault. But it should not gnerate links to "Fan Created Ages" of which You have personal instace in Your valt. Those should be shown in Wrtier's Nexus in coressponding "Personal links" (if there will be such category. Just an example)

Well, if we're pulling code from the Nexus, don't we need copyright permission and an FCAL?

I would like that, but remember, some Garden Ages aren't prefixed with "Eder". Would it be possible that, each Age people make, we request that they tell us if it is Garden, Residence, Guild, D'ni, Commercial, or any other categories, then group them in the Nexus like that?

Hmm... I didn't know the Nexus had problems. Anyway to fix them?

Chloe planned to do it from scratch, but keeping to the design of the Cyan one, to make it also "work" IC. I think she even had an idea for scroll bars, as there are "draggable" GUI elements (remember the sliders for sound volume). I think it was Tweek who once described some awesome Nexus ideas, can not find the blog right now. There was also the idea of having short-links for the start letters, i.e. clicking on a button labelled "G" would jump to the first age stating with that letter.
However, I am really not the right one to ask, sorry.

Yes, a complete re-write. Anyone volunteering? ;-)
It's not the only part, btw. KI and Relto Shelf also have Python code that people with the risc of heart attacks should not look at.

OK, so much for that.

Sounds good! Still, I think categorizing Ages would work better. But, if we could implement all these ideas, maybe a palette swap to a red color and a GoW logo might make it look good (the IC story is that the GoW was working with the GoM to test a Nexus 2.0).

OK, now that is the definition of cool! Finally, we can decide if we are feeling in a Tsogal or Delin mood! I need to look further at this site. Did you make it?

EDIT: You did make it, because it's linked up with your Beneath site.

There's one issues with categories: It's hard to put ages into them. I tried to do for the Shelf, and it was hard, and for most ages I failed.

Actually, I was thinking we would ask for categories when the Age is sent to Dustin for publishing. And, now that I have read that whole site (two posts up), some of those concepts are so cool they just have to be implemented :) .

EDIT: Current Ages could be put in an "Original Fan Ages" category.

EDIT 2: Put together a rough concept sketch. Using the Nexus picture from MYSTlore's Nexus page, I added a GoW logo to the MT machine. The end result is the attached picture licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license.

My thoughts exactly. :P Anyway, I at least want the new Nexus to look a little different from the official one.
Note: I had to say that due to the fact MYSTlore is licensed under a cc-by-nc license. I've removed the picture anyway.

EDIT 3: Due to the fact that Chloe has posted a better idea, the photo was removed.

And what about those Ages not submitted to Dustin? - I know I have no intentions of directly releasing through UAM. =) And Tweek mostly just releases on Beneath. - And I doubt Whilyam would release by submitting to Dustin - Nor would SubRest, if we ever release anything. =P

You don't /have/ to submit ages to Dustin to release stuff, you know. ;)

@diafero: "It's hard to put ages into them" ? You mean like "in what category should I put this Age"? Or "how technically storage this info"? If the first one, then I think that is the easiest part of this whole "Our own Nexus" bissnes ;)
