But the pellets don't seem to work in the Pellet Cave on DI anyway. They don't light up the cave at all, no matter what kind of pellets are used.

Did you wait 14 minutes in the Lower Cave to see the light? You must drop the pellet then link out of the upper part & link in the lower part & wait. They will emit light after the given waiting time.
