Re: Explorer Restoration Center
Yea, go with ABguys exterior it's a nice design. And to let everyone here know, I've been busy and will soon be even more busy for the rest of the Summer. So, go ahead and do what you need to do without me. I'll try to check in every once and awhile if I can. Bye!

Well, just make sure to check in often enough that we don't start to miss you.

And I will start getting ABguy's design into shape for modeling.

Eh, no need.
We all seem to like ABguy's design...

Re: Explorer Restoration Center
Well, lately I've been working on processing ABguy's concept sketch into a few diagrams suitable for modeling off of... Here's where I'm at so far:
Here's the design redrawn roughly, I was just trying to get an idea of the spatial relationships of the building. I was messing around with additions on the second drawing.
Here's the design from above and from the front, as best as I could tell; it was trickier than I expected trying to figure it out!
And just for fun, here's an earlier design of the ERC I was working on. Obviously, it's too exotic for us, but I still think it's pretty neat. The upper design is a copy of a picture of a Chinese watchtower, from with the two lower designs were based.
And finally, because I couldn't resist, here's a pic of our cat, "The Big Fuzzy Cat" also known as "The Big Purr."
Cute, huh?

It is nice to see how you have divided the house in pieces. It is a good plan to do.
I am very curious to see your cat but the link is not working for me. When you fix it a can see what for mouse catcher it is !

Hehe, it is a very fierce hunter! I recall my dad saying he had seen it chasing a rabbit once.
Thank you; it seemed like it would help everyone (not to mention me
) to understand what the parts of the building were the same in the different views.

Jennifer!
That's a huge Purr! WOw!
Hehe... my little cat scrammed from the desk when that picture opened up.
Maybe he was just jealous eh?
Good work on the views. I found the second one very helpful.
Can we use your more faniciful version of the ERC for the pavillion?
I'd hate to lose that look... and if the pavillion is secluded from sight of the ERC I dont see how it would detract at all.

Re: Explorer Restoration Center
Okay doke, here's the picture of a railing and the picture of a possible door that would open to one of the viewing balconies. Do you guys think it's too Japanese or too exotic? (Those are my main concerns at this point) Actually, I'm not too satisfied with the design on the tip of the little roof, so that could be replaced. Note that the part of the balcony with directly faces you (not including the part that veers away from you at an angle) uses 336 vertices.
That's a huge Purr! WOw!
And its purr is like the roar of the ocean!

Meh... It's sort of large for a pavilion I would think.

Re: Explorer Restoration Center
What you've got there reminds me a lot of my Shoganate style sketch. If I remember right you liked that one best from the get go
In fact that's why I've liked the newest incarnation so much. The outer stone wall reminded me of the bottom 2 floors in my sketch and there was the circular entry in that outer wall- which was an element I dearly wanted to incorporate but couldnt figure where to put it. What we could do is allow some heavily exotic elements with the building of the ERC and then relax the strength of oriental flavor in the garden elements. The other way to do it is with colour choices. The gray-lavender is a great modern colour that is not readily associated with the design elements we are using.
So in a nutshell... I like what you did there Jennifer
