Plan A would definitely be the most positive scenario. I imagine this has been coming for while and Cyan has been doing stuff in the meantime. Remember when UrU Live went down in 2004? Cyan had already started working on XP1 and XP2. I'm sure they had a few ages up their sleeve this time round too, but I also can't imagine that the past months have not been spend on working on Plasma and on working on stuff to facilitate UGC. Hell, they might just need two months to finish that stuff and hand it over to the community. Even if they don't make it open source for 100% there could still be some kinda agreement. It being licensing or something else.
My hopes are up (not high, but up).
In the meantime I've started working on my tuts again and hopefully finally start one or two ages of my own (I need about 48 hours in a day

) Some threads have been way to silent the past two days

So let's start building again and show them all what we can do here! More importantly: lets bug the devs with all the features we want and build ages that need them really, really badly

(sorry guys lol).

I actually did say that in an earlier post

One other thing: MOUL people tend to be...........different from most gamers.
Seriously, Chacal has a point. People get bored with waiting (boy we saw that over the last few months).
But, the Myst Gamer is not quite like any other Gamer out there.
There's always another, better FPS game on the horizon.
There's always another Hack and Slash RPG comming up.
But how many Myst games are there on the horizon? And I don't mean other games that try to copy what Myst did. We do enjoy those too. But even with them, your hard core Myst Gamer, they keep coming back, over and over again.
Even though I didn't have DSL, and thought I would never have it. I still ended up buy Uru CC again. Why?
Because I couldn't stay away from it!
So, yes. People might get bored. They might drift away.
But I think you'd be surprised at how many would come back too.

My opinion is simple. We should not get to serious about these discussions till we know what Cyan's plans are. So lets keep it calm in here. Thank you.

Agreed.
We have to keep leveled heads and keep a low profile about what we're doing. We can't make any promises or set any plans until Cyan sets things up.
Who knows? Like Rand said about hosting the server themselves, Cyan may just ask for, like, 5 dollars a month directly to Cyan... which would actually increase their revenue by almost 475% while making us pay half what we did at GameTap
Think about it. 10$ a month to GameTap. 900 games. Divide 10.00 into 900+. Multiply it by 4 Cyan games. That's how much Cyan made PER PERSON.
Multiply by 6000. That's Cyan's income from GameTap's MOUL.
So yea, being self run isn't a bad idea... but we have to wait.

Seems to me everyone is quite calm. We're just brainstorming.
It might be a good thing if Cyan decided to run their own server.
I'd be surprised if they were in a position to offer new content, which would open the door for us.
And it would be a way out of any legal hassle.

Well, look at Kahlo
Was in Stage 4 before it was Suspended. Screenshots of the Age even exist.
If they start up MOUL again (probably at Season 2, not Season 1 again) then I'm sure Kahlo will be an Age we'd visit soon.

I didn't say it wasn't calm. I asked that we keep it that way.
I got this job because I know a thing or two about this community, and I write what I mean. So don't read to much into my words. They are meant as they are written.
It seems that Cyan is dropping some major hints about running their own servers. I still think it is a good idea to keep this discussion going.

Hi all, I've been poking about the caverns, and, well, since the news hit, I've been pondering ways to keep the community going, though, perhaps not continuing uru, but, rather the beauty of uru. The exploration, the community.
I'm a 3d artist. Organics are beyond my skills, but, I have at least /some/ skill with blender. I've contributed to open source projects in the past, and I truly believe art should be Free, too. (I contribute my models and textures under the terms of the GNU GPL v3)
In most cases, I cannot stand Planeshift. Its.. inadequately free, for the claim of the developers that they support the open source ideals.
However, in our case, for the creation of an Uru-like game/environment.. this restrictions that they have placed on their RPG ruleset, and their art.. do not matter. For one, why would we want the rpg ruleset? We'd be better off without it. The art, sure, we don't have avatars to work with, in that case, but, there is "Perago Tempus" possibly, for that. It uses the same engine, but, its content is Free.
The underlying 3D engine is Crystal Space, and, as I'm fairly sure you're aware, that works fairly well with Blender.
Here are some shots from Planeshift itself:

Similar ideas are being discussed in the "Contingency Plan" thread.
We are discussing those possibilities, as a fallback plan, in case Cyan does not continue anything after all.
MOD NOTE: This post and the one above have been merged into here, please take appropriate action to make help them fit.
