Lontahv,

Everything your worrying about is in Cyan's hands. It's fruitless to drive yourself insane about these issues until they present themselves.

When we are approached or whatever by these issues we have a good basic structure and good people to deal with it. Relax.

I don't think so. We have discussed this before, and what most people were saying was that we need project teams for building Ages. Thus a project-scoped power structure. This: "levels of the guild, leaders, enrollment etc. " would kill us as surely as rat poison. Actually there would be no reason to even go on if we turned in that direction, as the outcome would be unavoidable.

We must resist the temptation to make ourselves an elite. Our only goal should be to make the best Ages. We don't even need an official recognition from Cyan. Every one should have the right to submit an Age for MORE, it would just be harder to submit a good one without the GoW.

Chacal, right.

We need to have a way of sifting and shifting the guild so that the good writers are on the top writing ages (this is if Cyan asks us to make ages for everyone). Not that they would be leaders or anything just that when a project came up you would just be able to call on a group of people (best of the best) to make the ages.

Yup, I'm seeing more and more this is a cross-that-bridge-when-we-get-to-it type of situation (thanks BAD :) ).

I don't see cyan "asking" us to make ages. We aren't here to do their bidding, we are here to do what we want, create ages that other people will see.

Personally speaking. I took the 3dsMax plugin thing as this. They're releasing the Plugin to anyone who wishes to use it. They're releasing the source for the plugin, and only the plugin to the GoW's dev team, so that they can use it to improve PyPRP. Perhaps by taking a look at the source for one, (Cyan Plugin) they'll get ideas on how to improve (GoW Plugin). Animations and Clustergroups seem to be a problem for us right now, along with clothing and other things. Releasing the source for the Cyan Plugin may help the Dev team overcome these issues. THey may find that there are things they can make blender do that will recreate the things that Cyan did in 3dsmax. Or find easier ways to do things that before were more difficult. We won't know till the day comes that they release these things.

I for one would like to use their Plugin. There are things I want to do in my ages that PyPRP can't do. And If I can wrap my head around 3DSMax, and use their plugin for more complicated puzzle ages I will, and use PyPRP for making simpler ages.

One of the things I'm really worried about is, it took a lot to make us be able to import the original ages, then the MOUL ages. Some of still haven't done that, and I've been promising to write a tutorial on how. (Its coming. I swear! I've just been busy this week with non-uru stuff) Now with this plugin, someone will be able to open the ages in 3DSMax and alter them. Whats stopping someone from altering the city files, or recreating the journey from the cleft down the great shaft, etc. Then starting their own Front-End Shard, and making those edited Cyan ages available to people?

If I was Cyan I would be more worried about that then upsetting a few people who have issues with not being included in everything that happens with the guilds.

In D'ni, their were guild masters who ran the guild, and the guild members. The guild had a council. So do we. Those council members ran the guild and made sure it worked with the others as well as internally, while the guild members did their work on the guild.

As members of the Guild of Writers. We will write the ages. Thats why Cyan is giving us the plugin. They're giving the source of the plugin to the Guild Of Writers "Masters" (our Dev team IMO). We're all gonna play a part in this. If someone doesn't like that their not a council member, then down the road if/when we have a new election, they can run for a spot on the council. SImple as that.

/me notes that Animations are not "a problem" seeing as they've been done for a while, and are just waiting for someone to decide when to make a release tag. *stares pointedly at Hoikas*

Since it's been such a long time, I'll just throw this out here.... I made this age several weeks ago while I was writing the animation support in order to test the stuff. It should give you a good idea of what is possible now.

Note that the "complex" open/close behavior is done without any python. (though admittedly, this introduces a saved state issue, since the responder state appears to be excluded. I wasn't too worried about that in a test age though.)

Nadnerb ... any chance you could post the Blend file for that Age ... I could learn a WHOLE lot from that Blend file ... ;)
(amazing work by the way!)

Responsibility is not the same thing is power. Also: both responsibility and power can rapidly turn toxic to an all-volunteer, service-oriented organization. Walk into that with your eyes open, please. (There's a *reason* that the GoW has never had an argument about whether person X or Y should be allowed to join the Guild.)

If you'd like, you can take the time out and go over to the GoMa Forum and read through every thread in the forum.

I would like it very much for you to point out where the GoMa has EVER said that someone could not join, or had to meet certain qualifications to join our guild. Please. You seem to be accusing other guilds of not allowing everyone to join their guilds, and that only the GoW allows everyone to join their guild. As far as I have seen, this is not true of our guild, the Maintainers.

Having been in this online community for a long time now, I've seen this over and over and over. Certain fan's rabid denial of any kind of authority or structure lead by fans and backed by Cyan.

Cyan themselves have said several times that we have to get our act together and cooperate. This does not mean that we run around like a massive mob. This does not mean that we run around and let anarchy rule.
Rand himself said that he liked SL, but that he felt it needed structure and authority over there.

The roadmap that Cyan has proposed has also suggested that they (Cyan) are NOT going to deal with a mob. Don't like it? Sorry. Take it up with Cyan then. Still don't like it and want to leave? Sorry to hear you feel that way, but......there's the door there then. Take care.

Oh and:

@Lontahv.......

I get and receive NO special privledges at ALL! None. I may be a Guild Master with the Maintainers. But if I make an Age that I want on MORE or any where else, I will have to follow the same proceedures that get put in place for approval as anyone else, just like Joe Age Maker. If the Age that is being tested or considered is one that I have made, then whom ever does the testing and approval will not be me.

Wait for the press conference and just after it. I'm sure many of you will have your eyes opened up.
