well that is one of the things to sort out.

I believe RAWA was trying to get the Guild of Archivists to issue out the FCAL's, but i'm only guessing that is intention

In any case there is a lot to sort out before hand, so I don't have any idea when it will start, early November maybe

I'll send Chogon an email to get an idea of what we need to do.

Besides, I wanna hear everyone's ideas, after this there maybe more requirements or tasks to fill depending on what were comfortable with in later contests.

What about team work, is that allowed?

For example, I have an idea for an entry, but it involves stuff I'm really not good at doing, like say...making reflective water Image

Are we allowed to get outside help, or do we have to lone-wolf it?

Some idea's:

1. for my own benefit (being able to participate that is) I suggest starting november 1 ;)
2. teamwork should be allowed in my opinion. Simply have people write down their team on admission.
3. how about promoting more structured approaches to writing? I can imagine people sending in their plans beforehand. It shows how people work and also whether an initial idea has come to blossom
4. I suggest part of the project is coming up with a storyline or history for your age

As you can see I promote more a integrated style of writing ages :) Not that I am such a structured person, but with MO:RE coming up we might need to start working in different ways than we are used too. Especially if we are going to have to work together more. Maybe we could at least try to incorporate some of these things in RAD3.

I have plans/challenges in the future that will require teams

But we need more people involved in small self contained areas of Age design, first, once we see 20 - 30 entries done by individuals then we can expand to teams

I would like to start on that a wee bit, and IMO if we do go for Andy's suggestion, I want to see/hear original music composed that adds both mood and ambience to the area/Age.

Then we'll do small teams from there, ie modeller, composer, python and scripting in roughly that order?

What about our artisans and texture artists, would you want them to help you out?

lots of question, lots of my ideas,

I like your ideas Grogyan. Maybe we should have ages judged on specific expertise to see what people are good at. For instance: a muscian is judged on ambient music and sounds etc. and less on texturing and lighting. It might motivate people who believe they aren't up to doing everything to participate instead of deciding not too. It could give us more insight in all the different fields of expertise and quality within the community. People could tell their expertise up front, like a system simular to pool: "red corner pocket". Personally I would for instance say up front I want to be judged on textures.

Maybe we should have categories, although I am afraid we won't have enough competitors for that yet.

Anyway... my two cents again

What if the judging categories covered each of the various "features" that one could add to an age: sounds/music, animation, scripted interactions, texturing, modeling, story? That way, each person's speciality can be scored. If someone is talented in multiple areas and their age reflects that, then their scores will be higher.

I don't think we should require everyone to have one thing or another, e.g. every age must have music. Let the contestants choose what they want to showcase.

I agree that we should hold off on teams this go around. It would be difficult to weigh a team effort verses an individual effort, unless all entrants were on teams - and of the same size.

I also agree on the start date (1 Nov). That will give us plenty of time to hash out the details.

Should I start writing up the rules we have so far on the Wiki, Grogyan? It can serve as a communal rough draft that we can shape over the next couple weeks.

andylegate wrote:Oh yes, I meant from scratch. As you said, we could do the progress thing like the Shells contest, but I gather that was kinda hard?In the mean time, I'm fiddling with the City MOUL files. Got my swooping Bahro to work, the Light Meter is back on the dock. I even had the Memorial back, except it was like off, then when I fiddled with the python file, it went from off, to gone, and in it's place was this canvous cloth and barricades to the Pub...never saw that before, and I assume that was there during the Wheely episode (couldn't get in there myself, way too many people). So I'm having fun working with that and Myst V ages too.
:D

Andy, if you could, PM me about your progress with the MOUL city stuff. (I, like you was able to get the imager and the memorial to show up. The memorial was not working though, so I'minterested in how you got it turned on (the barricades and cloth were from Prologue days. those are the barriers Sharper "tore down" when they tried to take the pub away from him I believe.

And I'm interested in the Bahro files as well, I so far have only got the Arch ones working, but PM me so we don't take this RAD contest off topic.

No, FCALs will involve a panel of guild members from GoMa, GoW and the GoA processing applications for passing on to Cyan for final approval.

I hope small teams might be allowed. Then people could capitalise on each other's strengths, individuals could start where they feel most confident and the whole project and community would benefit.
