What I mean is it'd be good if people didn't have to be voted into certain areas and everyone could post if they wanted to enrole for a job. :?

Another possibility is for people to be very involved and active in other groups, but have roles and skills that overlap with those needed in the GoW. Shouldn't their contribution to the wider community be recognised?

This double registration idea could also get in the way of them contributing in a timely fashion to particular debates within the guild.

This is the GoW. It should not be that people can just come over and in a day take over. If you want to be part of the GoW community, you post on the forums. If you haven't started and still want to be part of the community, start posting promptly. :P

You need to have been active on the board to fully understand the ins and outs of this guild's community. Even if you're the best person in the world at everything, if you haven't frequented this board and talked on the board you don't understand this guild and members of the it fully.

Being a rep is quite a powerful seat. Maybe it's easier to think of it as a position of power that the councilors dole out with discretion. Being a rep isn't supposed to be one of those things you "just do because you haven't done it and want to see if they give you 'goodies'". Not a place to sign up if you can't get it together to post more than 0 posts or one post to show off your <blank>. :P If you're not into writing posts, that's fine, but we want feedback from the reps, so we want people who post.

I understand the frustration of people who keep the GoW as a thing on their shelf (I mean to imply keeping it as a kind of trophy--that may or may not gather dust) and want to control the future of it while not being part of it. I firmly believe the people most affected by the GoW should control its future. Currently those people are its active members.

This guild is not a structure that will affect you unless you want to be part of it. People outside the guild shouldn't think their lives will be vastly different if a certain proposal or other doesn't pass. Mostly, the proposals are extremely internal matters.

Ok, enough off-topicing for one day. :?

Well said Lontahv. You must have ate your cheerios this morning. ;)

We formed this system because the previous open voting system failed to be effective. Casual people were throwing off our voting numbers. It's not a bad thing to be a casual member of the guild, but when it comes to administrating the guild, casual users eyes glaze over.

We had rather in depth conversations about setting up this structure, spent weeks trying to get it approved, and 18 people, out of 560 something signed up as representatives in a month and a half. Frankly, most people don't care about guild politics.

Councilors as a group will be approving Reps. That's three opinions factoring into the decision. The decision is only going to be based on if the person shows at least a passing knowledge of the age building process, is active on the forum, and is not just trying to cause trouble.

Perhaps at a later date we could put in some wording about setting up a way for the reps to audit the councilors decisions, if they believe they were unfounded? I don't know. I kinda like that there is a form of checks and balances thing going on.

Well, I do post quite a lot actually. I've clocked just over 3000 on the MOUL forums, it's here, there's little I can get involved with (I read more than I post here) and my areas are mainly things that aren't greatly involved here - my area being 2D Concept Art and Photoshoppy stuff. *adds word to his dictionary*.

So yes, I would take part more here, but as the art section is rather silent at times, there's not a lot else I can contribute too. I'm not a great coder and I don't really know my Blender from my Bryce so I wanted to try out for the art liason as it was something that interested me - hence the reason I thought more areas should be open to people in the same situation.

Nevertheless, I shall try to contribute more anyways as I am generally interested in the goings on of this forum. ;)

A neat and very pertinent illustration of the current Catch 22 situation!

TG, I'd say feel free to register as a rep - I don't think you'll be rejected...

TG, you've lurked and posted on the board quite a bit. If you're interested in voting on GoW proposals and GoW politics, go for it! :D

TG,

This is why we have the Councilor review. If you look at the minimum requirements we have spelled out in the Guild Structure document, I think you would be pleasantly surprised to see you qualify.

Thank you for your responses everyone. I am interested in the guild politics and have just re-read the charter, it's just I applied last time and think I was turned down as there was no 'Post Reply' button in that section when I went to post.
