For cusiosity's sake, could you provide examples of laxity on this forum?

Certainly, you need only look at the crazy topics about Hex Isle ages being converted. It went on for quite awhile without any mods calling anyone out. Personal attacks, mocking the other side, etc. I'm not saying either side was pristine, it went both ways. Some mods even took part in said incivility. I really do disagree with Veralun's actions. I just think either extreme is bad in some respect.

I just read back through the Hex Isle thread and saw personal attacks from only one "side". Most of which were rescinded; however, the instigators never apologized. In fact, they continued to attack and troll. Interestingly enough, the instigators are now attempting to play "victim."

This is how Moderator Hoikas sees the issue. Of course, Moderator Hoikas has no care for moderating "dialogue" either unless is grows to consume the entire forum.

In my view you can't babysit a forum. It is inevitable that people will argue and flame. Just deleting posts and threads does not solve the problem. In my experience rewriting history dooms you to repeat it and with the instant communication of a forum a pattern arises quickly.

Good mods will find ways to discourage the behavior. They will find the source of the problem and try to find a way to ensure that the source is nullified or in most cases put on alert that they are being watched and any continuance of the disruptive behavior will be punished swiftly.

I tried as a mod to get involved with disputes directly (through PMs) and work out the issues or give warnings to those I felt were being abusive. This made a few people angry of course.

I like Adam's moderation style. Seeing as he is practically all alone doing it, I think we can cut him some slack.

I'm not entirely certain of what "side" you're referring to but I have a rough Idea. Upon looking back myself however I see the complete opposite. Perhaps our definitions of "trolling" are not the same.

In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room or blog, with the primary intent of provoking other users into an emotional response or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.

I loved how the Hexisle thread was a bigger flamewar than the Magiquest thread :D

But on topic, while I don't like Veralun at all, Cyan takes a big piece of the blame here in my mind. Not only for not doing anything about Veralun, but for having bad policy as official policy.
