And Cyan has said the demotion "should" have happened a long time ago. No explanation was given as to why the interns needed to be stripped of their privileges in order for RAWA to talk to the mods.

So we petition Cyan to reconsider. Even though I'm sure this is a very long shot, they'll be somewhat more open to that than they will be to demoting someone who's not even acting up right now.

Okay... what can we do about that?

Petitions don't work. I've seen petitions being made and signed regarding Uru since 04 when it first shut down. In the end it was never a petition that got anything done, but people doing their own thing. Tweek and Denny helped put together a petition to get Veralun to resign and it cost them a demotion.

Cyan does what Cyan wants and that's all there is to it.

Okay... why are we trying to convince Cyan to demote Veralun then?

Because veralun is still a threat to Cyan. The only reason I haven't seen any issues is because (to my knowledge) veralun has not moderated anything. Moreover, as the messages in my blog post showed, Cyan is getting defensive when it needs to be getting proactive.

Again, I think Veralun will only warrant action if and when he resumes his overzealous moderating. The mentality that he needs to be removed before he strikes again seems comparable to Veralun's state of mind probably was when he locked or deleted the debates going on on the forums. They didn't contain any defamatory remarks or insults... but they might soon, for all he knew!

Unless I'm missing something big here, Veralun has not pulled a Dhel and started up his harmful behaviour, just after seeming to repent. And I think that as long as he hasn't, he shouldn't be punished further. My interest in getting him to step down as a moderator was just to get him to stop cutting off discussion that needs to happen in order for open source Uru to succeed. But stop he has.

Indeed. But if it's a pointless petition you want, why not try getting back the interns' admin rights? That way, if it works (despite astronomical odds!) there will be a much greater payoff.

So... so that's it, then. The fans are the only ones who can objectively diagnose and try to change problems in Cyan, but they're too difficult to fix?

The things we want from Cyan seem pretty basic and fundamental. If they can't provide for Uru's future co-developers... Maybe it's because Cyan doesn't have what it takes to survive at this point.

You're confusing "difficult" with "incapable". The problems are neither difficult nor outside Cyan's abilities. Cyan simply does not show that it has the will to fix the problems. This goes beyond Cyan's handling of veralun. Cyan can do a better job of at least explaining why suggestions won't work (if not working to implement them). I have repeatedly gone over simple solutions that I see no reason Cyan cannot implement.

Again, I think Cyan is misplacing its priorities when it ignores the Uru community/supports to dinosaurs in the community.
