Karkadann, what do you think about this:
Shouldn't we organize a meeting in Relativity when Calena has finished her work?
I mean, when I released it first, and Diafero installed it on the Deep Island Shard, I had visites there sometimes, and I sometimes met people, but not really enough to make a screenshot which shows players in all positions like on Escher's original. But I would love to make such a screnshot. It would underline your idea of having it as close as possible.
Sure, the most fun in Relativity is walking through the Age, to really explore it, but such a screenshot is something I would find touching.

Since there are 15 or so people on Escher's drawing, you will need a party, not a meeting. Plus it seems Uru players like party-ing
About visregions: you could use them to hide avatars, but you would probably still hear the avatars' footsteps.

Oh, I love the sunflower in that vase and the new table, and the (rotating) penrose triangle is a great idea and addition as well ...
Wb Tach btw ... now this team is really complete ...

Tach That would definitely make the perfect linking image, then all we need is a age description.

Great job on the flowers, Rhee and Calena! You struck a nice balance between a realistic look and the slightly stylized one of the drawing.
I’m game for any Relativity party, last time I was in the age with a few others on DI we had a lot of fun!
True, but that’s true of any change to the age. I’d just leave that up to whoever ends up doing them, if anyone at all. (If you want to, Calena, that would be great, but from your comment about your window of time it sounded like you wouldn’t get around to it, considering that these are just measly beginnings and there’s still a lot to do, first on completing the massing-modeling, figuring out what goes where, then on detail modeling.) My ideas also modify some of the existing walls, so the UV mapping on those would have to be adjusted as well. As for plans, with my scarce and unpredictable availability I personally prefer to work without a plan, whenever I have time and feel like it – but it’s not like I have a lot of say here right now as I’m not contributing a lot.Calena wrote:Thinking about your walls and roofs, I realized that once they're in place, all the lightmaps inside the areas covered by the new ceilings will have to be done again. We need a plan.
My current sketches do alter the main structure, but only in places that are not visible in Escher’s drawing, and therefore are our own interpretation anyway. I agree it’s important to stay faithful to the original drawing, but I think that leaves us enough leeway to get something done.Karkadann wrote:the roof however im not sure how your going to manage that with out altering the main structure, I wanted to keep it as close to the original drawing as possible, and although when I was building the drawing in Autocad 3D I was considering putting a roof on it but I could never figure out how with out altering it to much, and then their is the camara for the box/seat on the Zplane that the roof might block. its an interesting idea, but you also havta consider the complexities of the exiting structure. On the other hand it just might work, and it might fit in nicely one never knows.

No screenprints tonight because I'm working on the game logic. Sounds and door animations are in.
Tach, I was very careful to keep my SDL code inside the correct set of parenthesis. You can keep breathing.
Karkadann, we now have three different doors, each with its very own squeaky door sound.
I keep forgetting about the ferns in the yard! I'm getting down to the final tweaks, which could take I-don't-know-how-long as I keep inspecting and looking for areas that need a bit more improvement. The lightmaps won't get re-baked till I'm satisfied that everything else is final. I'll keep you updated.

I can do the ferns too if you won't have time, Calena. I should be able to whip some up by tomorrow AM... i think i have some exisiting meshes from a jungle-ish age i was puttering away at that can be repurposed. As long as you can find a good texture and don't mind the unwrapping!

Sorry it took so long to get back to you, Rhee. I've had my head buried in studyingRhee wrote:I can do the ferns too if you won't have time, Calena. Karkadann - I was wondering if you'd like me to move the trees closer to the archways? I could build depressions into the stone floors such as in the opening scene next to the table and chairs. Also, did you want to put something in the little "house"? I think you mentioned that.
Were we going to use your triangle or denDwaler's? I think his is already designed to animate and put on a region trigger. I think I'll leave the coding of the camera angles to the expert - Tach

In spite of appearances, things are moving along nicely. I've been doing tweaking and there's still a bit more to do. The sfx on one of the doors needs the timing adjusted, I still haven't decided where to put one of the Escher prints, I have to fix the door hardware so all the hinges are properly on the walls, etc. Little things that need doing. On my end, everything but the snow is in.
Think about it and let me know. I won't be baking the lightmaps this weekend, I'll be out of town.

The tree's, as long as it looks close to the original drawling it should be OK.
The depressions in the floors might be a good, a small tree well like the one by the tables unless its growing on the grass
Tach's house, there are three doors in the drawing two are on the Z plane and one is on the Y plane if you wanna use the door I made for that door way or I can redo it and add the door frame,
Also a book or stone with all the names of contributors and What they contributed, A python for the book or perhaps a plaque would be better what do you think?
In addition on this page Dendwaler found a real cool sofa that would fit if he has it, if not I can start to work on one similar
The Idea for the Triangle was Dendwaler, Mine in game first draft, and had to be tapered down to make it look right in perspective, you'll notice one end is smaller then the other. Either one is fine
@Tech as far as the camera angles on the impossible shapes are concerned, you should have a target camera with the correct angle in the max file to work with,
I think I might be able to figure out Penrose Stairs as well so we could have three of impossible shapes shapes.
I tried the one called the Devils fork but could not figure it out outside of a wire frame and I don't think it was one of Eschers works
Back to Max with me.

Here are 2 examples of The Blivet. The first is the USAF Tarmac Anchor, the Second is Roger Hayward's Undecidable Monument. for a larger view click the icon..

Maybe you can use one of these instead of the Devil's fork...
The first is also called the schuster anchor
