Breldur, my new age
Re: Breldur, my new age
The Moul reflections don't work in Pots/CC, because that was added later for Myst5 I believe. (There is still the not-as-good reflections that can be done, however.) Anyway, good to see you're still enjoying working on your Age!
Re: Breldur, my new age
You know with all the talk of the (3DS Max plugin) I am curious as to what program your using to make (Breldur) Jonnee. Is it blender? or are you using 3DS or some other program? I can't imagine the nightmare that will come with conversion or re-building of Age's... if it comes to that.
Life is a book.
Re: Breldur, my new age
For sure I'm using Blender. And I still have to learn alot of it.
@Yali: I can understand your statement very well. Don't be afraid! I will keep alot of objects that I've used in the old version of Breldur.
We still have the two big teeth, the skybridge, the two statues, some huge caves, the beach, the ship, the palms, the garden...
I just shrinked the whole world a bit and have to combine the old objects in another way. The look&feel will be the same as it was before.

So modest!

I recently took another tour of both Jonae and Jonae Hood. I'll never forget how impressed I was the first time I saw the floating grassy Islands with the laser barricades. Your work then is a good standard for newer writers like myself to grow too, and from what I have seen so far of Breldur, Cyan is going to have to do some catching up too.

Btw, it's pretty obvious why Cyan had to take so many shortcuts when building their ages, due to the computing power of the time. However, if you follow Brown's Law, computing power has compounded by the power of 4 since they originally designed the original journey ages. If you've been using stencils in Breldur, could you give us an idea of the computer you're using and what frame-rates you're getting? I realize you're far from finished, but since your age is one of the latest and greatest to come down the pipeline - I'm very curious about it's performance.

Once again, the screenshot is astonishing! I wonder if you could post a high-res screenshot as well every now and then. I'll keep following this topic and hopefully I'll visit the Age someday.
Re: Breldur, my new age

I have an old AMD Athlon XP 2500+ with 1,83GHz and 2GB RAM.
My graphic card is a WinFAst A7300 GT DDR2 TDH with 256MB Ram.
I think that's average. The new version of Breldur works better than the older one. My old "steam machine" doesn't have to calculate as much as it had to do before.

Re: Breldur, my new age
Thanks for the info. In fact, that's great info for me. I'm "repossessing" an older machine from my brother; it's an XP2800+ with a gig of ram. I'm not sure of the graphics card, but I'm sure it's sad by today's standards (much slower than you're currently running). If Breldur runs smoothly on your machine when it's completed - then I know I have a decent control to work from (after a small graphics card upgrade.)

Re: Breldur, my new age
I (finally) got around to playing some fan ages. I have played a few of Jonnee's. I was so impressed by your other work Jonnee, I am anxiously awaiting Breldur!!!
You have a great sense of design, even with your earliest works.

BAD is as good as he gets
Re: Breldur, my new age
Jo'nae and the Hood were really impressive visually back then.. Really, all that was missing was some better lighting (a problem common to most Ages), and it looks like there quite a bit of improvement in this regard in Breldur.

Re: Breldur, my new age
Update!
OMG! I will never do this again!!
The next two screenshots show you the work of the whole last week. This atrium took me alot of nerves and energy. And I'm still not finished with it yet. I still have to create some lamp design and want to change the colour of the columns, because in room #1 I've used red colums already. Right now I don't have a matching texture.
But I believe the look of room #2 satisfies.
Comments are welcome.
Hugs, Jonnee
