I like this transparent colourful tower

I prefer e-mails to "diafero arcor de" (after adding the at and the dot) over PMs.

I like your age very much, there is a lot to explore, but i must say, the Lag is killing me.
(quad core, 2.4, Graphiccard NVidia 8600 GT 512)
Maybe to much animation or big textures?
But its very nice, sounds are really cool
Keep on the good job.

Re: My Age : "Somewhere"
HERE you might find the reason for the lag.
It's a problem that was already discussed in a few threads, it's called shadbuf.
Good luck!

Re: My Age : "Somewhere"
Salut denost2!
When unpacking your age files, I saw that your textures PRP is REALLY LARGE. About 180 MB (!), the largest I've ever seen.
Because I became interested in how this is caused, I had a closer look into the PRP with PrpShop - and I found that many of your textures are included in the file as duplicates.
For example, the texture called "Bois_entrelac_Seamles" is stored FIVE TIMES in the file, although it's always the same.
1. Bois_entrelac_Seamles
2. Bois_entrelac_Sea
3. Bois_entrelac_Sea.001
4. Bois_entrelac_Sea.002
5. Bois_entrelac_Sea.003
And there are textures which are stored 15 times (!) in the file, e.g. "RustLeak_M.jpg", just with various names, but same content. And this matters, because it's a 1024x1024 texture.
You should avoid this.
It is caused by Blender, when you assign a texture to an object, e.g. when you load an already used texture again instead of choosing it from the list of already loaded ones.
You can see that this happend when you check the name of the texture. So when a texture is called Bois_entrelac_Sea.001 instead of Bois_entrelac_Sea, this texture is NOT SHARED or re-used, but in fact stored as a different texture.
And during export, this texture is exported as a different texture as well, and not re-used.
Actually this makes your texture PRP about 3-5 times larger than needed.
If you want to correct this, you should have a look into each texture assignment and change them to point always to the *same* texture name.
E.g. make each material that uses the image "Bois_entrelac_Sea" point to exactly this name, not to "Bois_entrelac_Sea.001" or others.
If you're unsure how to do this in detail, just ask.
(I hope I described it in a way you understand).
I cannot predict how much this reduces lag, but it will definitely reduce load time a lot.
Finally, this is going to become a really nice age.
(Currently I have much lag as well, and I don't have a slow computer. Not the fasted available today, but it was fast enough to be able to win the Pellet Run Contest in MOUL some while ago, where I player the "Runner", at screen resolution 1920x1200, and we won the medal. Hehe. Just to give you an idea about what to expect to be "average" PC speeds.)
Bonne nuit,
tach

Re: My Age : "Somewhere"
Bonjour les amis
Hello my friends,
Ten months later I come back with my age "Somewhere".
I had problems of lag. And I worked hard to decrease this default.
Number of vertices divided by 2 (App. 70,000 now)
Diminution of colliders (previously all objects were declared as collider)
Optimization of materials
Almost all movement have been cancelled
I hope it will be better for everybody (for me no problem)
Nevertherless i am afraid some could have some lag (depend of the PC)
More interesting.
All textures have been reworked during these 10 months.
I think aspect is improved
More places to explore
I think I will try to release this Age...If I understand how to do
A view of a deep canyon

Re: My Age : "Somewhere"
Your screenshot is beautifull.
I hope you succeeded in getting a good overall performance.
I know its a pain to get it right, i have been thru that also.
If you haven't set visregions, then i advice you to make those.
With the Visregions tool made by Tachzusamm it will not be very difficult and the result is extremely rewarding.
So don't hesitate and do that, when you have any performance doubts, before releasing.
I wish you to submit a well performing beautifull age!

Those wonderfull Worlds are called " Ages" , because that is what it takes to build one.

Got this thread split into two parts?
The first post is by diafero now - and the threadstarter's post count is 1.
Something strange is going on...

Indeed, weeeird... looks like the first few posts were removed? I can't see any other reason for the post counter going down...

Re: My Age : "Somewhere"
Bonjour Denost2, Hello everyone,
I played your age Somewhere since almost a year now but I have the old "monstruously laggy" version. Could it been possible to publish a link to your Megaupload site for me and others to download your newest version of Somewhere?
Or maybe you want it to be included directly in the UAM? If so, contact Dustin at ...
he has a hard to remember alias name let see dbl724 if I'm not mistaking.
Thank you
