I don't simply put because it is a means to stamp out spam, heck DJC used to have sign up mechanism in place the same as it, until people stopped going there and I lost interest in the site.
Just making a mountain of a mole hill IMO.
As a side note, pretty bright colours in posts are nice and all, but not everyone uses the black forum skin, cyan on white is a tad blinding.

Actually, over at the GoMa, we had to start manually activating accounts ourselves. Started a couple of months ago. We had people registering so they could post Porn Spam. We got tired of it, so switched to manual.

Umm./ I think I'm thinking that the discussion going on here is exactly what should be going on, because for me the things being done by many individuals and groups is necessary to make sure that the "ending has not yet been written". In my RL, I worked with many diverse groups consisting of paid employees who were responsible for putting together some pretty complicated curriculums. A lot of time and energy was wasted in deciding who did what, who decided the 'what' was 'good', how the 'what' was evaluated, and 'who got credit'?????
I'm gonna participate in this absolutely new, different, untried, creative, exciting, etc. endeavor whenever I am able to do so. We'll have all the above problems, I always did, even with a set of directives in writing that everyone worked? from. If my previous experiences are indicative, we'll have most problems with the above instances, all wrapped up in individual ego needs.
Should be a lot of fun.

Unfortunately many people choose to ignore the political aspect of forming a functional group. I fear this guild will either find a small niche and stagnate, latch onto a larger entity, or fade away completely.
We'll see.

Possibly all three in no particular order

Should we run a poll to see which we want to do first

I'll have to say... the OpenUro.org manual sign up went smooth and if there was ever a girl they might want to keep out, it would probably be me. As Andy points out others are going to manual or capcha codes for new sign ups. So, it is not the issue I thought. Sorry OpenUru.org guys. I've had to change my thinking.
I waited a bit before signing up. I wanted to see what happened and who participated in OpenUro.org.
I also wanted to see the tone of their posts and ... I gotta say it, there reaction to ideas from other games, especially SL. Could they hear my points about Dune or only react to my being an SL fan. So, far they do a good job of listening and hearing the points, some of which they tear to shreds. In general an ok group.
Bad may be right. It may wither and die. It may become a small special interest group. I think the later is likely. I do think more of the techies will start to hang there. Time will tell. Whatever the forum is up. Deal with it as you will.
edit: Oh... I quit using bright colors... :p

That is correct.
