'Boss fights' in Uru...
Re: 'Boss fights' in Uru...
Well, I'll just continue to take a look at new 'ages' and leave if I don't like it. That's the way I consider new games. Preview, evaluate and make a choice. I'm not interested in the author's motivation for presenting anything. I can hit the 'x' or close the book... I don't attack the author; I just ignore him/her.

Re: 'Boss fights' in Uru...
Want to know what I miss? The danger. Myst felt dangerous and scary the first time I played it back on the atari jaguar. Riven was more so because the bad guy was on the loose and you were on his turf. I love Uru it is beautiful, sad, breathtaking, and heartwarming. But much of the conflict feels so long ago, and I sadly have yet to meet a Bahro good or bad... but I digress, I hope that either Cyan or the fans bring back some of that old excitement and I really don't think anyone really needs to worry, I think we will all find what we want in the Ages built by both by Cyan and by the Fans.

I also would like a clever situation like in Myst where you do something right, you get rewarded, and if you do something wrong.....
Well we have relto books for a reason right? Perhaps there could be an age where there is someone living there. If you try to go through the age in the wrong way, he attacks or confronts you, but if you do things properly, you can make friends and he gives you something.
I'm going to think on this a bit and possibly write a story about it. This should be fun.

If you want danger, take a walk across the strut to the Kadish journey door. That still gets me sometimes, even with a Relto book.

Try jumping down and walking backwards along the strut in third person.

Maybe it could be incorporated into a puzzle, but not an end to itself -if you know what I mean...
you might be able to take out the "losing" aspect of this "fight" and instead just letting the user be stuck in that room/area (of course you could panic week) until they complete the real time puzzle (rtp?
). That makes it a whole lot more Myst-like to me.

Re: 'Boss fights' in Uru...
Well working in the limitations of the game, the person can't actually physically attack the explorers. Nor can he/she actually do any harm to them. However you don't need to physically attack someone to scare them and anticipation of injury can be far more scary than actual pain. Also it seem that this will require some acting and finding a way to have an actor available at times (and an excuse why they are not there at others) may prove difficult.
So this will be quite a challenge.

Still, the concept is good, IMO. Heck, the first time I cimbed the ladder to the Vault Room in Kadish, my toes tingled. I'd like to see more puzzles in the game that make my heart race! Haha, Gahreesen before I figured out which switches to pull...

I felt the same first time in Gahreesen! I thought my buttons were broken. It turns out they weren't!
