Ok, thanks for the replies. I've managed to build PyHSPlasma again (this time with the right Python version, 3.4.3, which hadn't made it over to the new machine I'm now on, argh), and Blender seems to recognize it, but now I get a crash in PyInit_PyHSPlasma, apparently when calling PyModule_Create2. When I get some more time I will try to rebuild once more with Python 3.5. Perhaps that helps.
