I'm not in favour of chat filters, because:
a) they are annoying and
b) they only provide a false sense of safety.
Long version:
A) it's nearly impossible to flag all words with a double meaning - if you want to block all alternative spellings for all words that can have a double meaning in every country uru plays in you have to censor a lot of words.
B) slang is a fairly local phenomenon - e.g. English slang in the Netherlands can be quite different from US slang - If you don't know something is slang for something obscure, it's harder to work around to find an alternative.
C) If you don't know that a word you're using is slang (which according to B is highly possible) it's especially annoying if it gets blocked (which can happen with a lot of words Re: A)
D) A lot of slang words have a normal use in a certain context - you seriously inhibit normal conversation. Especially if that word is the only usable one, or you just don't know an alternative.
E) Since (A) you can't block every word with a double meaning, and in slang there are like a million synonyms for the censor-prone-concept, those who want to get around it can easily get around.
Oh, and in regards to the kids:
Let's just put up an agreement on the shard registration stating that:
1) You agree to keep all conversations on the shard morally safe. (Or a better legal term for that)
2) If you're under 13 (or maybe for everyone) and such a conversation is going on anyway, it's youre responsibility to walk away and notify the admin.
That way I think you should be pretty safe from legal repercussions.
(And let's keep in mind that for legal problems you also need someone who sues you. Which is pretty unlikely if you have civilized rules, and always attempt to sort problems out in a civilized way.
