No offence but as long as you give him credit where credit is due why couldn't you release the Age (or even "finish" it depending on what needed to be done)? I mean I have experience before with working diligently with people and then they dissappear often due to no fault of their own and sometimes they just don't come back. I personally believe there could only four real possiblilities that could happen if you did release the Age now.
1. He would be pleased that his dream was so loved that it continued in his absense.
2. He would be annoyed that he didn't get to make the initial release but be happy people are enjoying it.
3. Ask that it be taken down so he could have it finished.
4. Be angry and ask for it to be taken down perminately. (Which isn't much different than the state it is now except it wouldn't have been enjoyed at all.
I know you are trying to do the right thing and I respect that as I'm sure everyone else does and in the end it is up to you. It would just be sad to see this Age go to waste.

I understand the points that you are making and whilst I agree with most of them, I do feel that I should at least give this 12 months of "no response" before I make any decision as to the future of it's release.
I am reluctant to release it "as is" because it is far from finished ... and I know that Oneironaut had several (unmade but sketched) additional areas planned for this Age.
If, as and when I finally do release it it will have all the current texture issued resolved, but no additional areas.
It will have no puzzles or "gameplay" .... it would just simply be a place to "hang out" ...
I am thinking that 12 months would be a "reasonable" period of time for Oneironaut to come back to me. If I have still heard nothing after that time, then I probaby will release it (with the current texture issues resolved)

Oh yes very true. I foolishly thought he had been gone longer than that. No 12 months is completely fair.
As for the unfinished parts there is always the option of releasing the finished part to get more people to fall in love with it and then you allong with some others try and finish Oneironaut's work from his sketches (I'd be more than willing to help where I could). But yes it makes sense to wait and hopefully he will return soon and we will all no longer have to worry.

12 months is reasonable. Now we have to hope Boblishman doesn't disappear too.

Interesting predicament, is it the right to release a work of art before the artist gives consent or has a chance to finish the work.
on one hand if it is released it may inspire other works of art from other writers the unfinished nature of it may inspire idea's and what I always found interesting is looking at things I can not build and seeing how they are constructed, Im the curios type
on the other hand taking it upon yourself to release the work of another may cause other issues.
from what I have seen its a wonderful looking age with a certain Cyan quality which is not always easy to achieve and Im sure their are those who would love to see it as is only to be updated later, however artist can become rather difficult when you take in upon yourself and release their work without asking, not knowing the individual I would not personally know what to do, releasing it may draw his attention to the project and he can always update it when he has time. But who know, its definitely worth a link in and a walk about even if their is no game play
Perhaps releasing it to a small number of writers that know him well enough where they that can finish it in the same style he is using might be something to consider

Why are you strongly against doing something that might be disliked by a corporation producing commercial Ages (but not even making artistic changes), but seem to have no real problem with making unauthorised artistic changes to someone's personal work? Haven't you said before that you really hate the idea of someone messing with your art? (And I agree, and so I do not like artistic changes to *anyone's* Ages. Cyan is absolutely not worth more consideration than some actual person, and as a mere corporation, I would venture to say are worth considerably less, even though once again, I do not like artistic changes to their work either.) If he doesn't say it's okay to be given out, then it should probably not be given out.

I was just trying to look at the situation from both points of view.
From what I understand in this case he did not say it was OK but he did not say it was not OK, its AGAIN a lack of communication that seems to be the problem

Shorah,
after a long time, I awoke from my hibernation.
Many things happened the past two years...
For now, I'm looking forward, not back.
I'll need some time for the start again.
But it's a live-sign ^^
