Okay... back to the original plan then, and the original prizes/gifts, if you all are in favor of that.

May 15th: Submission deadline. (five days from now - start posting entries!)
Late May: Judging. I'll work through the entries submitted, following every tutorial from start to finish. I will follow the general judging criteria described earlier in this thread and remain as objective as I can.
May 30th or 31st (End of May): Prizes awarded to winning entries.

Winners will then have to decide on where the prizes should be mailed, who they should actually be given to.
As those decisions are made, I'll gift the prize items to those addresses.

They should begin arriving in the mail a few days after that.

Anyway - one entry per person, all entries must be submitted by the end of May 15th.

I look forward to seeing your tutorials.

May 15th is today... No entries submitted in this thread (so far) - you're all running out of time to post something.

Please post links to your contest entries today!

Fantastic choice, Andy Legate - that's a very impressive and useful tutorial.

Anyone else have an entry to submit?

It's May 16th, and only one person submitted an entry.

This is a problem, as this was meant to be a *contest* - maybe we should extend the entry deadline and allow for late entries.

What do you all think? Extension to June 20th?

I was hoping for at least four entries...

What do you all think we should do?

Well, I'd say give Andy a prize and start a brand new contest, this time advertising it right from the start.

And the reason why I didn't submit my tree tutorial was that the screen recording software I was using skipped little chunks of time hither and yon. Looks like I need a different program.

What did you use, Andy?

FRAPS.....the "you can only record 30 seconds at a time free version" and pasting it together with Windows Movie Maker.

But that was just a little 45 second video to show the results, not the tutorial itself. TheMagician uses something else I think.

Anyways, if I'm the only entry, don't worry about any prizes (I said earlier that I'd donate it to someone that needs it anyway). I just entered to help populate the entries.

I'm with Jennifer, you might want to try again, but start a new thread, and make the Subject Line use the word Contest in it. Suggest what type of contest you'd like to host, and then ask for people to help you set it up.
If you get people interested enough to help you set it up, you all will then want to have a "entry period" meaning people who want to join the contest can sign up. After the period is over, the contest is closed to only those that are making entries.

If you get a chance, go WAY back (or use the search tool on the forum) and find the original threads for the 2nd RAD contest. It was a very good example of a well run contest. The first one had problems, but those kinks were worked out by the 2nd time.

Some personal suggestions by me: make the contest something that can include a lot of people on here, like Age Building (all though I think there's a LONG term one going on right now with that), texture making, model building, things like that.
Tutorials, while great, are not something that a lot of people on here do. I do them 'cause I'm insane, hehhehehehe.

Also, I recommend having more than one judge. You can include yourself of course, but it would be better if you had several people volunteer to help judge. You all can then hash out your judging rules amoungst yourselves then.

Just some suggestions and opinions by me. But I really do recommending trying again, and giving the 2nd RAD contest threads a good read.

Even though it was the only competitor, it still deserved to win^^

Agreed. Andy wins.

I'll give Andy Legate the top prize (actually, all the prizes) as his was the only entry submitted - now all he has to do is decide what to do with/where to send the various items I've listed.

As for why there were not more judges - I asked people to volunteer to judge with me and nobody stepped up.

I wanted a group of judges and a bunch of entries, but that didn't happen.

Lack of promotion, I suppose - and what promotion I did attempt to do sometimes failed miserably.

Anyway - Congratulations, Andy. You deserve this. You've made a lot of great tutorials, not just the one you submitted, and I'm glad to give you all four prizes. Where should I send the items?

PM me about that.

You can keep all of them if you want to, but I (and some others here) would appreciate it if you would gift some of them to other people in the GoW, particularly the duplicate items.

Anyway, figure out where you'd like all the prizes sent, PM me, and I'll send them to the relevant addresses.

Anyway, thanks everyone for your enthusiasm. This didn't turn out exactly as I'd hoped, but we can plan/organize a better contest next time around.

Hrmmmmmmmmmm........how to do this fairly.... :?

Okay, here's my idea:

There were 4 prize levels: 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th.

Those gifts were:

4th place: Blender for Dummies

3rd place: Mastering Blender, $5 Amazon.com gift card

2nd place: Creating the Art of the Game, Blender for Dummies, $10 Amazon.com gift card.

1st place: 3d Game Textures (2nd Edition), Mastering Blender, $15 Amazon.com gift card.

It that's changed, let us know.

So that is 9 things listed, 4 of them duplicates (the Blender For Dummies and Mastering Blender).

How about I send out all 9 things to 9 people? And here is how we can decide: I'll pick 9 numbers between 1 and 100. I'll then PM those numbers to Matthornb2. All those interested in receiving one of these gifts PM both me and Matthornb2 your guess at what numbers I pick (you can only send one number however). Also list your first choice of gift, and a 2nd choice of gift (in case someone beats you to the first choice). Send your PM's AFTER 6pm GMT time 4/20/2010 but BEFORE midnight GMT on 4/21/2010.

MatthornB2 and I will look at the numbers after 4/21/2010. Those closest to one of my numbers will get their choice of one of the gifts. If 2 or more PM's numbers match a win, then the time and date of the PM will determine who wins (IE if Jimmy and Sally both pick XX as their number, and both are right or closest, but Sally sent her PM before Jimmy, then Sally wins).

Winners will be notified by PM that they won a gift and will be directed to Matthornb2 to send their mailing address.

Does this sound okay? I don't want to have my inbox flooded with people asking for the prizes, 'cause I'd want to give everyone something (I might be and growl like an old bear, but I'm a push over at heart), and I don't want anyone to get upset and think I'm playing favorites.......I don't need the stuff that was won, but I know there are many out there that could or want them.

Unless Matthornb's changed the prize to paying off all my bills........I'll keep that one! :D

Please let me know if this sounds fair or if I should change something ASAP.
