Just my 2 cents

(being but an enthusiastic newbie /w my hands still wet /w clay from modelling my first age...),
check out:

wild metal country uses ip-sharing /w stand-alone clients acting as servers for one another or a server acting mainly as a relayer. this magn. game used to have a forum for ip-sharing for players (alas those days are gone

now...). the platform and engine were same for each client so the amount of info needing to be transferred was extremely small --> gameplay over internet was very smooth even /w many players

.
I hope that some of you guys /w more expertise in this field (mine at the moment being mainly /w autocad, solidworks --> trying to adapt what i know to the proper tools needed for age creation

) would check this idea out if there would be anything useful in relation to a multiplayer environment for uru...
As much as i read and re-read this thread i'd still love to see cyan come up with a platform for a multiplayer purposes.
(mind you, take a look at WMC - its a hack dream

come true)

Just wondering something. When should our Window for decision be?
April 4th is the Shutdown, so should it be if 2 weeks pass with no news from Cyan, we do our thing? I mean... we need to know when we should REEEELY plan to do things.
Someone got an idea?

I would say we give it a month.
Then we prepare everything first.
then go public with our ideas(month or two later), and gauge the response to it before implementing any of it.
Then go from there.

So what will we do? Make a game similar to Until Uru's shards?
Let's hope we won't have to do anything like that though...
At least if we do, the Guilds REALLY will affect how the game works.

Cyan must announce something on the 4th of April or before that, but certainly not after (or at at least not more that a day or two). If only to say "we can't say anything now, but we'll have more news in the next few weeks". So we'll have a more precise idea of our future on April 4.
I'll be surprised if they announce anything before that day.

I think Bad's schedule is the most realistic.
To summarize it:
-We give Cyan a month after april 4th to make their statements. (For safety)
-After that we take two to four weeks to work out a solid plan, select a base platform, work out the base continuity.
-That being done, we present it to the community. - A myst-style "secret slowly revealed" style may be the best approach for that.
