Starting from scratch...

I am soooo frustrated looking for answers to my (probably) stupid questions, so here goes:

I have decided to start all over and deleted everything and so far I've re-downloaded Blender 2.45 into .../Program Files. So far so good. Before I can install PyPRP plugin, I need to know where to put the following downloads - please!

Python 2.5.1
Python Imaging Library
Python Cryptography Toolkit
PyYAML
Psyco 1.5.2

LSYSTEM 1.1 and/or GEN3
PLASMASHOP 2.2
URUPython 31
Audacity 1.2.6
NOTEPAD++ or Notepad2 or JEDIT

GIMP or Paint.net or Genetica

Feel free to let me know if certain ones are unnecessary or there are better alternatives. At present, I could not get the FuncChk Age to export properly and I messed around too much flinging files here and there that I decided to start from scratch.

Thank you in advance for your advice.

Everyone of those programs that you have listed will install themselves where they need to be.

The ONLY thing you need to worry about installing in the right place, is the actual plugin. And I don't see that on your list. You can't create Ages without it. Go to the PyPRP part of this forum to download it. Those files must be copied into Blender's script folder which is normally this file path:

C:\Program Files\Blender Foundation\Blender\.Blender\Scripts

Note the one folder that has a dot at the begining, Blender will create that folder when you install blender.

Now, when you download the plugin, look for the script files. If you see a folder called SVN look in it, but DON'T copy that folder itself, you only want the files that end with .py or .pyc.

Now copy them into the folder I listed above.

Once that is done, you have to tell Blender about them. Open up Blender, and change one of the windows to User Preferences (looks like a fat little "i"), in the window you should see several buttons, and one of them should be called "File Paths". Click on that button.

Now you should see all sorts of boxes. Find the one that says "Python"

in that box you should see a little button that looks like hands clapping. click on it, and a directory tree should pop up. Using this tree, go to where you pasted those files, and click on the big button that says "Select Path"

Then go back to the box that says "Python" again, and this time click on the little button that looks like a note. Now shut Blender down and start it up again, it is now ready to go with the Plugin.

Thanks Andy!

I have installed the first five on my list above. Then I installed GoW PyPRP 1.3.0 and copied the contents of the src folder into the scripts folder. I do not see a folder named SVN. Or is this in the previous version of the GoW PyPRP? I do not want to go any further and mess it up again.

Ah, no. with version 1.3.0 they got rid of the confusing folder, so you're good to go.

Be warned though, there are still some bugs with 1.3.0 they are working out, but mostly it has to do with scripting, so you should be okay to start building and exporting first.

Ohh yeah...ohh yeah..../me does a HAPPY DANCE!! :D

Yup, I believe the reason I had so much trouble the first time was because my Python folders downloaded separately into the directory. This time they all went into the same folder and I had to move a few files in the URU CC to get the clickable/kickables and pistons moving. Oh yes!! It is all good now.

I am good to go for Age creation....except I will more than likely be whining about why things won't do what they are supposed to do. /me shrugs - well, hey - I'm a noob and with Blender, probably for a looooong time. LOL :?

So, thanks a bunch Andy for clearing it up for me.

Oh, if anyone has any input on the other downloads, please let me know....like quirks, pros/cons, or way too advanced for me so I should stay away from them....yada, yada, yada.
