Maintainer Traning Age

Shorah, after working with blender more and more, I think I'm ready for my first age... I'll try as hard as I can, but I may still need to help in some areas I'm weak in... This age is a Maintainer's training age, in which the explorer links in to a small circular room made of metal. In front of you is a rusty barred door. In front of the door will be a sign saying "Please make sure you are wearing a maintainer's suit, and have a relto book with you at all times. when you open the barred door, you can enter the door at the far wall, which will lead to a narrow hallway with dim red lights.

when you get to the end of the hallway, you find yourself in first training room. Now, this age is more of a IC Maintainer's age, not like Camp bravo, instead of finding age flaws, it will train maintainers for fast reflexes etc. (sort of like what the wall was designed to do) the room you enter is a Lava room. The room has no lights, and the only lightsource is the flowing magma below you. The floor will be made of a sort of crystal, in which you can see the magma below flowing... the first pit you come across, you will have to cross narrow wooden ledges to the other side, and from there, cross a group of Lava rocks floating in the water (yes floating, I'll make them kickables, and they could very easily fall over, and the avi will panic link.) Once you get over that pit, there is one final test in this room: four canyons of a sort of "waterfall" of lava are in front of you, you must walk in between these pits, and to the other side. For now, that's all I'll tell you... but there WILL be other rooms.

here's the link in room: http://www.mediafire.com/?i09cueyj0hj It looks better exported to URU than it does in blender... and I haven't added the sign yet, because it was originally supposed to be a prison age :P but feel free to improve the lighting, or make any necessary changes :)

O, and would someone mind making this texture less tileable? Image

Suggestion: While jumping, climbing and leaping will make people like Dot and Ametist very, VERY happy with your Age, :D , in one of the areas you talk about, you might try making a "Build The Bridge" type deal, where the explorer can either do the jumps as you talk about, or they can try pushing kickable objects around to build a crossing of some sort. Don't think anyone else has done this yet, except D'lanor's Prad Age with his shells (but the goal is different).

ya, well I actually think I might put a few kickable lava rocks on a plane (that will be hidden by the lava plane) so it looks like they're floating, and then if they can get across, great! if not, Panic link time :P I could have an alternate way, but it might be just as difficult :P

Well it will be a lot of fun for those that like the jumping, climbing or what I like to call "arcade game" aspect of Ages. That's something that I never really cared for when it got introduced in Uru, but that's just me.

Now, also what you could do is when you're done with this one, make another that is more "puzzle" orientated. Make the Maintainer think too. Put some excitement in it like, they walk in a room, the doors are triggered to slide shut (and stay that way) until they figure out a puzzle that is inside to get the doors back open.........oh, did I mention that the roof is slowly moving downwards with barbed spikes in it? :D :D
Of course you can't die in Uru, so you parent a panic link region just infront of the spikes so at the last minute the avie links out to Relto. Then when they get back the puzzle is reset.

Nothing like thinking on your feet, hehehe.

But really Justin, it is all up to you and what you'd like to do. You can ask people's opinions, but if you had fun making it, chances are that people will have fun exploring it.

...not sure what you mean by this Justin ... LESS tileable?

well, it looks fine as a single square... and it looks pretty tileable when I map it, but it still sort of doesn't look right... I meant more tilable, not less btw :P but forget the texture for now, I think it looks good enough... but now I'm having annother problem:

I've begun adding my transparent crystal texture, and have added the opening for a door... but for some reason some areas seem to overlap too often or something, and this is the ugly result: Image
what's my problem? here's the file: http://www.mediafire.com/?cam4iyg91my

Uhm, just looking at your picture, it looks like you have cubic meshes inside your crystal texture......
