Modeler Request
Modeler Request
The Myst Embassy is in need of a modeler for a D'niverse wide project that is being discussed over HERE. The primary modeling needs being a bookshelf and books, similar in concept to the relto bookshelf, but unique in design. Static pictures of the models will be used in the final product. Please drop in over on that thread if you are interested, or IM me here.

Re: Modeler Request
Well, if nothing else, it was an interesting exercise, there weren't many criteria here except "bookshelf" so I made a few books and stuffed them in a box with a candle. (yeah, probably a fire hazard, but who's going to notice, eh?
)
This is provided "as-is", as a work of an hour by one who is avoiding doing things that he ought to be doing. If it just happens to be what you're looking for, however, I'll be happy to provide the full model.

Re: Modeler Request
Nice books and shelves, Nadnerb.
Rich lighting.
Is it a steep learning curve on that sort of candle lighting?
Very nice secondary reflection to the upper shelf; and while the first book to the left of the candle has an 'unreal' darkening toward its top, i prefer it this way; you are giving the book's surface a more interesting aspect [also necessary contrast to book behind it], with the gradation toward a darkening top (even tho closer to flame than the lighter bottom).

Re: Modeler Request
oooh, that's beautiful! And it might be just the thing, too.
*comes back after peering at it*
It really is fanstastic! Here's the changes I'd make:
Brighten the scene up a bit.
Put the books standing up, up on the top shelf (and there would need to be 6 of them)
The books on the bottom shelf could be scatted and sidewase, but with more spines showing (at least 5 of them)
Maybe make variations in the book covers

Re: Modeler Request
Well, simple enough. I suppose I can do a few modifications. Added more light, rearranged the books, put in some color variations on the covers. Also widened the shot a little so that we can see the (rather boxy) shelf.
Re: Modeler Request
I feel somehow compelled to reach into the screen and grab one of those books... :7
EDIT: ...or at least put that candle out of harm's way...

Re: Modeler Request
I know Eleri has a functional purpose for her books, but just from a quick aesthetic take, I believe the new shelves have a better layout; also more realistic;
and the broader perspective is better;
but a nice stone wall behind the wood shelves would set the scene off in a more engaging fashion;
and the mysterious lighting in the first shelves was more gripping, more attention-getting.
Oops! I think i smell wood burning; gotta go.

I really like this
Nadnerb, would you mind hopping over and looking at the storyboard, so you get an idea of what this is going to be used for?

Re: Modeler Request
I've actually read that thread a few times already and the link to "the storyboard" results in a "Firefox can't find the server at http://www.mystembasy.net" type message, so clearly something must be amiss.
