Tool For Forming Age Creation Teams (Prototype)

Post by Robert The Rebuilder »

Near the end of my age creation presentation at Mysterium, one of the audience had asked how someone would go about forming a team for creating an age on the Guild of Writers. I mentioned that Pryftan had started a thread for people to declare their various skill sets, but we didn't have anything formal set up. At best, people would make a post about an idea they had, and if they're very lucky, enough people would respond to the post. But that's been very rare.

So, I thought about what might help move ideas along into real ages, and I came up with the following Wiki page:

Forming An Age Project Team.

I added a few people from Pryftan's list just to convey the concept. Please look it over and see if it is useful; if not, tell me what can be improved. Are all the relevant skill sets captured? Is it intuitive? Let me know!
Can we rebuild it? Yes, we can - here's how.

Thanks, Kato!

A couple questions for people:

- Do you think I need to add a "Project Lead" skill? I didn't originally because I thought the only people who would be using this list would be project leads. But then I thought that people who were looking for someone to lead a project (and form a team) could use this list - but only to look for a project lead.

- Should "Sound Artist" be broken up into "Sound Effects Artist" and "Musician"? I realized after the fact that it requires two different skill sets: sampling/recording verses composing/performing.
Can we rebuild it? Yes, we can - here's how.

About the "Project Lead" category: I think that we can all be leaders when the need arises... and it depends on the project. So, I don't think it should really be added.

Item #2: Yes. Entirely different skills.

I finally finished the table of writers. You can see the final product here. It has everyone who has posted to date on the Reference List Of Writers forum topic.

Please review it to see whether your skills were correctly listed, and make adjustments if needed.

Also, I recommend creating a user Wiki page that lists your skills in more detail, providing examples of your work. Think of it as your age creation resume. Note that each entry on the table has a link to each person's user Wiki page; that way, the project lead can learn more about you before contacting you.

I would like to suggest that you repeat the header (skills) about every 20 entries.
Also the list might be more readable if you only show the 'Y's.

Robert, how about you try PM all those people on the list and if they don't respond in a month state them as "not available".

'Cause it seems very much like we have a lack of good modelers in here for projects... and according to the list we have ~40 (which I see there are people who I saw in MOUL but have not been here for a year--or are too busy to help). So maybe give all those people a ping or check to see when they last posted.

This would make the list more "true" and more useful. :D

Something nice would be a "skill" thing for each different category but I think that'd be kind of insulting to some and liable to be wrong (because it's hard to rate people). It's just I see a lot of people who can "model" on this list but are just starting to make simple ages (not really what you want for a project team head-modeler :P (unless the modeler is the project owner as well)).
