3DS Max

Post by J'Max »

I recently got 3DS Max as a gift and am jumping into this. Seeing how I never used 3DS Max before, are there any good tutorials for building ages out there using 3DS Max.

No. currently all the GoW age building tutorials are for Blender. It is not yet possible to create ages with Max. (unless you work for Cyan) Sometime in the distant future, Cyan may release max plugins.

There are probably tutorials for using Max to model stuff out there, but I don't know about them.

If you are prepared to lay out for a book I can recommend "3DS Max 8 Revealed" they have new and used copy's on Amazon and it's an excellent starter book.

They do copies for other versions and it's published by Thompson course technology Authors Max Dutton and Rob Doran.

Dig deep it's worth it and Max can port some stuff to and from Blender OK not everything but I am looking at it as a useful tool. :D

Wow - that's one hell of a gift... you should feel lucky :)
One day I ran through the cleft for the fiftieth time, and found that uru held no peace for me anymore.

The gift was from my father. He used to be a programmer till he retired earlier this year. He knew I had a passing fancy for it so he gave me the program.

Anyways I guess by the time Cyan releases the plugins I should be fluent in it.
It just would have been nice to have gotten a head start.

I had a go with 3ds Max a while back, but didn't like it, if you like the UI then go for it, there are tutorials everywhere including youtube

I don't know what you mean by the "distant" future, but cyan clearly stated that they will be releasing the 3Ds max pluggin, when MORE comes out, as well as the binaries, so we can get them for blender too.

All of that is in the distant future... For Cyan to release the plugin, they have to drop a few files into a .zip file and pass it out. It seems that they aren't capable of doing that...

"I'll believe it when I see it" is my current view towards the tools and MORE.

Why wouldn't cyan be capable of dropping a few files in a zip folder? I don't see the reason for doubt...

So why haven't they done it already? Wouldn't they rather have the tools out as soon as possible so that people can create content for when MORE opens?

After dealing with Cyan for a while, you start doubting them a lot. Especially when they promise grand idea, with a staff of 10 QA testers.
Regarding MORE...
