For two days I get "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" when I go to the GoMa forum (or website).
Someone else sees this also?

Regards,
Frits

Yes there appears to be a problem resolving http://www.gildofmaintainers.org so you are not alone. Some of us have problems down loading ages for the ULM that appears to be a related problem. :(

Same problem here. Mozilla doesn't show the website either. It would be nice if someone could tell us here what's wrong. Nyn, Andy?

I'm sorry about this guys, but yes the GoMa forum and website is down right now, we hope to have it back up soon.

The cause is that the domain name expired yesterday.......that was something that we should not of allowed to happen, unfortunately one of our GM's who has dropped from site for months now had all the info on this. We have not been able to contact this person anymore (apprently they lost interest), and out web mistress and GM Nynaveve was trying to find this out (you need the password and stuff).

She was able to get that info, but because the domain name had expired, she had to pull money out of her pocket last night to renew it. I, along with some of the other GM's are VERY upset and angry about this, not with Nynaveve, but the situation as it should not have happened. We're looking into ways to remburse her.

In any case it may be several hours or not until tomorrow (a business day) before our Website and Forum is back up. We apologize for this as I know many of you have information you access there each day, have private testing for your ages there, etc.

We'll be taking steps to avoid this in the future.

Nobody can actually be blamed for loosing interest. This is a direct result in the lack of real external activity.

Yes, you're right J'kla, but it was their responsibility to let us know they were moving on and pass their duties on to someone else. This isn't just a small group of people who want to have some fun, its turned into hundreds, if not thousands, of people who are relying on us. But there's no point in kicking a dead horse here. I've done what can be done to restore things, so now we must wait. I apologize sincerely for all of this. I feel horrible.

Ah well, just as long as you didn't lose the domain to a stupid squatter.
Anything else just requires a small bit of patience :)

right. J'kla I don't blame them for loosing interest, however the GoMa is much more than MORE or MOUL, just as the GoW here is much more than that now.

We not only test the stuff people learn to build here, but we host too! We have private forums for Writers to discuss their projects privately and we also host files for Ages so people can download them via the ULM or zipped up. Right now they can't do either.

So while I don't blame them for loosing interest or wanting to move on, I do wish that they had done a proper turn over, so that a situation like this had not come about.

And before you draw conclusions like you did, no, it wasn't just lack of externals as you called it. They were becoming more and more interested in something else many, many months ago. Even the first announcement of MORE didn't spark the interest for them like it should have at the time.

In anycase, even with MORE put on a back burner, our membership is a lot larger, and we have more than just members dropping by, we have people using the resources we offer. So as I said, the GoMa isn't about MORE or MOUL or Uru: Live...it's about Community.

But don't worry, we're taking steps to keep this from happening again.

For those people who are desperate to get on the GoMa site while the domain name is down, you may use the IP address:

67.159.129.115

Forum is at 67.159.129.115/Forum

Please beware, though, that many of the links are hardwired to use the domain name instead of being relative to the root directory. You may need to manually enter addresses to get where you want to go.

Right now I think we're looking at a return time of sometime Monday. Things work by business days, as Andy mentioned, so we're stuck until the next business day rolls around. ;)

Thanks for your patience everyone.
