Animated lightmaps?

Post by Ar´thalion »

Hi

I created some interrior for my age, added the lightmaps to the objects and recognized that lightmaps, mapped to animated or moving objects, move along with the object itself.
Now, it looks kinda stupid if the shadows that should stand still on a spot, move with the object. Well, i know the map will always move because it is mapped to the object of course. But, istn´t there a way to tell the lightmap to stand still, or is it possible to create a nother object in front of that surface i want the shadows on, like making it transparent on the spots i want the object to shine through from underneath?

Sounds like a good place to use dynamic lighting (ie. materials that are not "shadeless" and reveive no- or little ambient light), instead of lightmaps. First look at the projection lights article in the wiki -- these should suffice for quite a while. If you have objects close by, whose shadows are baked into your current lightmap, you may want to allow those to cast dynamic shadows (the "shadebuf" button), if you decide you can afford the performance hit -- these are not soft shadows though (..although there MAY be something in plasma that would allow that too...)
