Planned Downtime

My subjects,

The forum and wiki will be going down on this THURSDAY, January 14th, for not-so-routine maintenance. The downtime will begin around 10pm EST (UTC -5) or sometime thereabouts; I hope this is not too inconvenient. The forum and wiki will become available again whenever your ISP or custom DNS provider decides to update their cache (I would advise cussing at them to make the process slightly faster). Once the maintenance is complete, we will be running the latest phpBB and MediaWiki. This maintenance is a step toward the new journal system and website that I've been promising for... Awhile. Sneak peaks are not available ;)

Please keep the scheduled down time in mind.

Thanks,
Your Totalitarian Leader

Good luck with that.
Do you have any idea how long it will take?

Reply hazy. Ask again later.

Or so says the Magic Eight Ball.

The actual work that I need to do shouldn't take more than an hour or two (maybe longer if my internet decides to randomly screw up, as it has been doing for the past few weeks). I'm going to change around a few DNS Records, which adds in a slightly random factor for everyone, so I can't really give a definite answer.

Right, just with the DNS update it may take any amount of time between 2 and 48 hours for some people be able to access the site again..

Right.

But OpenDNS uses should be able to access it again within a few hours. *hint*

My luck it will be 48 hours. Last couple of time I had to wait on a DNS propagation it was nearly 2 days before all was right again.

How about a post of this info over at GoMA most of us look over there and it might cut down on your personal list of "Hey! the site's down spam" :)

The forum maintenance is theoretically complete. The automatic updater is a piece of garbage though, so there may be some problems. Please let me know if you encounter any issues.
