if linking was similar to the Multiple worlds interpretation of quantum mechanics then it is possible that in one of the Multiple worlds described in MWI of QM where the situation that unfolded in Riven was different then the one we experience, and Riven could still exist in a parallel world in any one of a number of forms, its only a maner of writing a link to a place and time that existed before the destruction of Riven, In theory
