Hey I whipped this up this morning as I had someone asking me about active volcanoes in Uru and using the Plasma Engine. So I sat down and just threw this together quickly. First part of the video is a distant volcano on the horizon, then one up close with an actual model. Not sure why the video was so laggy, but for some reason Uru does that when I run Fraps.
Anyways, it tickled me so much I thought I would drop by here and share.

Is the texture of the volcano made with vertex paint? It's looking great.

excellent, can you do lava with the particle systems?

Ooh, I suspect that doing so even halfway decently might be pretty brutal on the system as-is, but I'd love to be proven wrong.Karkadann wrote:excellent, can you do lava with the particle systems?

Lava with Particle system? I would animate the Lavatexture to get something like a Lavaflow...

Technically you'd want neither particles nor a static mesh with an animated texture, but a proper fluid sim. Of course, Uru doesn't have that...
Re: Volcanoes, check it out.
Might be able to do something with Wavesets

I don't think, that Wavesets would work, cause lava is much more viscous then water and wouldn't make waves...

Re: Volcanoes, check it out.
Hey guys, sorry I don't really hang out in anything Uru anymore, but wanted to just quickly share what it was I was goofing off with.
Volcanoes come in several types, but are basically catagorized by their eruption types.
Lava oozing from it, like in Hawaii is one type.
Pyroclastic erruptions (think Mt. Saint Helens) is another type.
This one would be classified as a "Cynder", think smoke with sparks coming from it. Pyroclastic types, have a HUGE plume, and it looks like boiling clouds. Not sure how to pull that off in Uru, as it would have to be some sort of morphing mesh.
The lava flow type, I wouldn't use wavesets, but animated texture instead, just like Cyan did for Eder Gira. What would be cool is to pull of having that heat shimmer around it too. I know how to do that in Unreal's game engine, but I'm not sure how to do it in Plasma.
Anyways, I'm very happy to see you all still busy working away with Plasma and doing things with it. I've been gone because I've been working in other SDK's and also enjoying myself by actually playing games, hehehe: Skyrim, New Vegas, Portal 1 and 2, Half-Life 2, etc. I forgot how to have fun just playing.
So TTFN, and again, I'm glad to see y'all keeping the light burning.
