is this a bug? I have 4 avvies and a free slot. When I try to fill it, it tells me there has been a network error, please try again - if the problem persists, please contact support.

I got this error in Gehn11 just before it crashed. In Gehn 12 I can load my old avvies no problem but haven't done any testing yet. I've tried to create the new avvie both on start-up and via using the logout procedure.

There were some database issues when we first rolled out Gehn.11. They should be resolved now - please try again and let us know if the problem persists.

I have tried several times (Gehn Shard) to create an explorer, but after naming (him, in this instance), upon the "explore uru" prompt I recieved a 'Network Error- contact support if the problem persists" box a few sec's. after the "preparing to link" box... Well, the problem is DEFINITELY persistent and I SURE could use some support to resolve this ish- I am running an HP Athlon AMD (win's. XP- service pack 3) pc w/ upgraded Nvidia GeForce GE 5500 video & graphics card- 800 x 600 resolution, Bink & PHSYX installed w/ the latest Direct DX drivers- operating a broadband internet connection via router (D-Link) w/ Hughesnet as service provider & PLENTY (65 GB) of free space left on my hard drive... I tried, once, to load one of my MOUL names into the box; Never recieved the "Error" box- but it just hung @ "preparing to link" & would proceed NO further. I tried re-running the install as per a previous GoW suggestion; but to NO avail Any tech folks out there w/ possible fixes/remedies to offer? Your input would be GREATLY appreciated, 'cause I'm STUCK!!!

Thanks, Branan, the problem is still there. I wonder if when I tried to create the avvie under Gehn11, it did something dodgy. Should I try deleting an avvie to create a new vacant slot....

OK, I'll debug when I'm off work. Possibly Hoikas can check this out before then.

EDIT: I found my way onto the server and got into the logs. It looks like the DB still needs a little love. At this point we're hopefully still in the "manual effort can fix this" range. I won't wipe the vault until it's truly unrecoverable, but we're definitely going to need to do some work here. Worst case, if Hoikas still has his backup from the server move we will revert to that rather than doing a full wipe.

I unfortunately can't shut down the server from here, but really if anybody else tries to create more avvies it just makes work for us, it doesn't worsen the state of the DB in any appreciable way.

I do ask that those of you who can see this stop trying to create avatars for now.

so, I've tried to create an avatar, which didn't work as Acorn experienced it already, but maybe it is
good to have another confirmation though ... I'm getting the same Network error message asking
please try again or contact support ...

Hoikas claims this is fixed now. Feel free to try again and let us know how it goes!

D'oh!

Sorry about this guys -- when we updated the database to support pellet scores*, the scripts overwrote some internal counters used to store player/node/reference/state/etc IDs. I had to restore them to the old values by hand yesterday. I obviously made a mistake on the players value. This has been corrected, and you should now be able to create new avatars. Hopefully we won't find any more stupid stuff like this.

* Wamduskasapa is beating us all in pellet scores (by a huge margin), by the way. Congrats to the GoW (13) Neighborhood for shooting off to a slim early lead in the Neighborhood contest.
