Blender 2.47

Postby Grogyan » Sat Aug 16, 2008 2:50 pm

I have just installed blender 2.47 RC1 for windows

The plugin seems to work ok without a problem

You can now use the Add menu to add PyPrp objects like books and softvolumes without changing a window to scripts

There is also a feature called grease pencil somewhere, I havn't found it yet

Get the latest from
http://www.graphicall.org/builds/index.php

note that the builds here are NOT the official builds

Yey! New blender version! Thanks for the heads up, Grogyan! Going into the script menu always annoyed me, so I'm glad that books and things can be accessed from the menu bar.
Grease pencil sounds fun ^_^- there was an article on blendernation about it... somewhere. I'll have a look. Anyway, for those who don't know, it allows you to 'sketch' little pictures onto the 3d view, to help with animation (especially walk cycles) and modelling. Oh, and for general silly madness :D !! (I know which I'll be using it for.... hehehe)

I guess it could develop into something like the live whiteboard in Truespace, which would be very useful for collaborative projects. It should be simple enough to implement into the verse-blender program (here). Verse is a offshoot of blender which is optimised for using over a network- many people can model on an object (or age) at the same time, and could write each other little notes as they did it with grease pencil if it were implemented.

EDIT: I found the blendernation article. linky

Ah, thats why I can't find it, its not compiled with the most recent windows Blender build.

If you want to play with it, download a version from Graphicall that is tagged with grease pencil

I hope that it does become part of the 2.47 release version

This was already available in 2.46 Grogyan. The drop down add menu allowed the creation of everything from books to regions. The spacebar shortcut was the only add menu that didn't include the pyprp as an option.

No harm. Just thought I'd let ya know. And others, in case they wanted to wait for a official release 2.47, that the option to add pyprp stuff is available in the 2.46 version through the add menu as well.

It actually helps alot because now we don't have to use the script function at all (Unless you're using tree or stair case generators, or other non pyprp scripts)

I've been noticing a trend, it appears some people are still using Blender 2.45 or older.

Please upgrade yours to 2.47 from
http://www.blender.org

or

http://www.graphicall.org/builds/index.php

There are a few bonus features from recent builds at the above site that are not in the trunk version from Blender.org, these features are not officially released by the Blender group

Yes, all your work, and PyPrp ill work with it, as all versions prior to Blender 2.5 will be bug fixes and wont have features that may break PyPrp

I actually suggest using the SVN builds from graphicall.org. They've recently merged all of the features developed as part of the Apricot project, so Blender now has a number of improvements for game designers including snapping objects to faces, Shift+B zooming, better camera panning, GLSL textured view, shadows from spot lights in texture view, grease pencil, and an improved text editor for Python coders due to GSoC projects. :D
