"Texture" Viewport Shading mode shows pink?

Postby Moiety Jean » Mon Mar 03, 2008 1:11 am

Hi all! Time for my first question here. :D
I'm playing around with UV mapping some textures onto my age model, just to get an impression of what it will look like, but once I'm done, I'm finding that pressing X in the UV/Image Editor window to remove the image from the object again leaves the object this terrible pink color forever afterward when I set the Viewport Shading mode to Texture. I've deleted all the materials from the object (and it does the same thing on an object for which I never made a new material, just played with UV mapping). Is this something that will cause me problems when it's finally time for the real texture?

On a related note, one of my objects claims to have 2 materials assigned, according to the Links and Pipeline menu (it says "2 Mat 1" or "2 Mat 2" in the little box), but I can only add a new material, not edit or delete any. Any ideas what's going on here? I always feel like I can't thoroughly delete any materials or images that I place on the image just to see how they look. I know closing and reopening will delete any materials that nothing is using, and I've done that, but there's still the pink, which makes me feel like it's keeping something I've done and don't want to keep.

Thanks in advance!
MJ

Most times that happens to me, I just open the image again.

All faces must have a uv texture.

And the other thing, the plugin supports multiple materials, so you can do fun things like decals and blends

Welcome, MJ!

The pink color means that it is referencing a texture file that it can no longer find. And yes - I cannot find any way to get rid of the pink either (unless I assign it a different texture). Very annoying.

Here's what you do to delete a material:

- Select the object (right-click)
- Hit F9 to bring up the Editing panels
- In the Link and Materials panel, you'll see a control on the right side that says "2 Mat 1". This is the material index display. Above it is the name of the material.
- Click on the left and right arrows on the material index display to locate the material you want to delete.
- Press the Delete button just under the material index display. Now it should only have one material.
Can we rebuild it? Yes, we can - here's how.

To all a ya's: The pink color in the real time view is not the material, but the uv layer, which references a uv image. Just click the X next to the UV coordinate layer to remove it, and there won't be any more dead image references in the real time view.

Hehe, my wacom tablet is my most treasured computer accessory. Unfortunately it has not saved me from my own enthusiasm. Today I got a new keyboard and mouse which I hope will make it all easier and more efficient, especially when middle-mousing in Blender. (thumb buttons on my mouse = Yay!)
