Export error

If you feel like you're up to the challenge of building your own Ages in Blender or 3ds Max, this is the place for you!

Ah ha. I know what caused it now.

Classic not thinking it through-itis

It was a simple fix, I just went back to the previous working version. Thankfully I learned the hard way to save and test every new addition instead of doing bulk work then testing, that way if there is an unfixable error, I wont loose too much data.

Thank you for pointing that out...if I hadn't brought it to the forum and you hadn't responded, I may have repeated the mistake in the future and have been stuck at the same problem :)

note to self: combining several objects with high numbers of vertices: Bad idea.

Side not to self: Duh.

That's some cottage.

Maybe Kierra is modeling Bill Gates' cottage?

True, very true!

But I'm playing the fool and trying to find a way to make nicer looking foliage. ;)

Billboards are nice and and low budget verticies wise, but they leave something to be desired in realism.

There is a reason why we don't have any Cyan made walkable forests yet...they're a bitch to make.

But I'm making progress. There won't be much in the way of buildings and other objects, but thats not really the point of this age, so that works for me :D

You know, I was walking around Delin yesterday, relaxing from age building, and making this tutorial......and I looked up.

Many of the big trees that they have, they got them really high, and then used like a few planes for the canopy. It looks pretty good, and as you're having to look UP it's kinda hard to tell that it's a bunch of planes. They also moved things around so when you're standing from afar, it's hard to look at those trees canopy at an angle.

Might help a bit.

One fascinating thing you discover when using fly mode is how Cyan managed to build excellent illusions that fool you if you stay in playable areas, but how quickly the illusion breaks down as soon as you cheat a little bit.

Indeed, they are masters of optical illusions. :)

Delin's tricks won't work for this age, the area is too open. But the technique is handy to have on the back burner for other projects :D
