Issues - PyPRP hates me

Postby Mystified Explorer » Tue Jan 29, 2008 1:40 am

I'm having issues with the plugin and Blender. I ran the conversion wizards which largely worked fine. However it changed my sprites, and now they don't work  . Using the string property "type" and then having the value as "sprite" causes export errors. The original "alctype" does nothing. How do you do sprites such as lampglares so they work?

Also I can't change or load the Fni file settings - that option is absent from the scripts - add - pyprp menu so I just get the default Relto style fog.

My lightmap baking isnt working either - i get black maps on the walls of a room with 6 lights shining on them. It sort of works on the floor, but the objects simply don't cast shadows in any way shape or form.

Finally, sounds aren't working. They appear to export fine, but upon entering the age in Uru, it's silent. I followed the sound tutorial to the letter too, including loading the file in Blender, checking spelling and names etc.

But wait, there's more. My Avatar is not lit by any of the lights in the age as far as I can see. Also my transparency is whacked out, but that might be the images more than anything else.

So yeah, the tools hate me. Help? Please? Anyone?

I think the best thing you can do is post your blender file (packed ofcourse) somewhere, so that we can take a look at the actual settings.

After using the converter, your sprite properties should now be the following:

string sprite_flags: 00000821 (or something similar)
string type: sprite

Do you have any other properties listed?

And could you post the sprite's export errors? Maybe that will tell us what is wrong.

You know, we've been seeing this kind of thing quite a bit:

Someone downloads then new plugin. They try to convert their Age, via the wizards. They then have all sorts of export problems or things don't work. Then they can't find a tutorial on it.

All in all, I understand that it take time to get the explinations and tutorials out there, I really do.

At the same time, maybe y'all should make a post with the download that says basically something like "Hey, this new plugin does not have tutorials for everything yet, and the conversion wizards may not help you with everything. You may want to keep the old plugin for your current Age, use the new plugin for a new Age created from scratch, or wait until more tutorials are put out to help you with converting you old Age."

Andy:

Those are good points. To that end, I've added a disclaimer to the conversion wizards Wiki. The more ages that we run through the converter, the more issues that we discover and can consequently repair.

It would also be good to know which previous PyPRP versions the conversion wizards can handle. Can they only handle ages made with the 0.5 stable version or will they work with older versions as well?

 I think I've just found my press agent! :)

D'Lanor: I noted in the conversion instructions that the age must export correctly with the stable v0.5 plugin prior to running the conversion.

I know but that is more like a disclaimer than a useful answer. Many ages were built before the 0.5 stable release. Will we ever be able to revisit those or are they ready for the trashbin?
