Running the Plugin on a Mac?

Postby zib_redlektab » Mon Jan 28, 2008 6:26 pm

Hi everybody, I'm back! :D

I left about the time this guild was officially formed, but Kato pulled me back in...so...here I am! :P But of course, I don't really remember anything about the plugin (I didn't know anything to start with  ), and now the plugin seems to be very different anyway, so I'm basically a noob again. Whee!

Anyway, has anybody gotten the plugin running on a Mac? I have Blender, Python 2.5, PIL, pyCrypto, pyYAML, and Psyco thanks to Fink and DarwinPorts, but I'm not entirely sure if they're working because whenever I attempt to export my test age from Blender I get a "Python Error, Check Console" message. Buuuttt....Since I'm on a mac, I have no idea where to find the console :? It isn't a separate window like on Windows...

Any MacHeads out there who could help me? :D

...get Windows? 8-) It's required to test and explore Ages anyway.

Don't you have Windows, anyway? :P

hardy har har.

I hate using windows, I'd much rather develop on my mac and then test on the pc...

Blender 2.45 says it requires python 2.3...why does the install page for pyprp say to get the 2.5 version of everything? :|

is it possible to get blender 2.45 to run under python 2.5?

I hate it too, Zib.

I just installed Blender 2.45 on Windows and it runs fine with Python 2.5.
Is this an error message you get?

You can run with the terminal to get output on the console.

Open the terminal, and type "blender -w". All debug info should appear on the terminal.

Thanks paradox!

Ok, well it starts with a message saying it was compiled with python 2.3.5, not 2.5. All the errors it puts out after that are saying that it can't find PIL, PyCrypto, and the others. This is probably because I installed them for python 2.5, and it seems to be using 2.3.5...So I guess I just have to get it to use 2.5? :?

edit: aha! I think I found another package which uses Python 2.5...lemme just test it out...
edit2: it does indeed appear to run with python 2.5 now, and still reports that it's missing yaml  working on it now...

Whic is sort of ironic seeing how you created one of the very first Ages way back :p (all classy and black and white at that). But yeah so much has changed lately that it's ok, we're all pretty much on the same level these days..

Ok I gave in and set up one of my old dells with Vista. The machine was not meant for Vista, so it's pretty slow and I can't really run Uru on anything but rock-bottom settings, but it should serve my purposes (and it wouldn't be that expensive to bring the machine up to vista-capable).

Honestly, you would be better served to find a copy of Windows 2000 somewhere (by whatever method you find appropriate. I personally feel that Windows is not worth tje CD that you burn it on). I have run it on a P1 166MHz with only 64MB of RAM. Go figure.
